Join to apply for the Collaborative Editor role at USC CERPP (Center for Enrollment Research, Policy and Practice) in Los Angeles, California.

The USC Annenberg Center for Health Journalism is seeking a veteran editor to lead a non-profit journalism collaborative focused on health and health equity, working with ethnic media outlets across California. The Collaborative News Editor will create educational programming, serve as project editor, mentor reporters at different skill levels, and lead a learning and reporting effort involving 5-7 ethnic media outlets. As project manager, you will nurture esprit de corps, build a virtual newsroom among reporters and editorial colleagues, brainstorm story ideas, edit copy, and develop a learning curriculum in collaboration with participating newsrooms. You will track outcomes and contribute to progress reports. Past stories from the initiative have earned multiple regional and national awards.

Note : This is a 40 hour per week, grant-funded, hybrid, staff position based in Los Angeles, with a two-day weekly in-office requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and edit a collaborative journalism project focused on health and health equity.
  • Create educational programming and a learning curriculum in collaboration with participating newsrooms.
  • Mentor reporters at different skill levels and coordinate editorial work with 5-7 ethnic media outlets in California.
  • Serve as project editor and nurture a collaborative newsroom environment; brainstorm story ideas and edit copy.
  • Track outcomes and contribute to progress reports on the project.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years in an editorial leadership role with demonstrated expertise in reporting and / or editing on social welfare, equity, health and health policy topics.
  • Editing and project management experience required.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus; cross-platform skills desirable.
  • Experience in the ethnic media sector and familiarity with the California health policy landscape encouraged.
  • Creative, enterprising with strong project management, collaboration, and ability to manage long-term goals and respond to breaking news.

    • Salary, Benefits, and Work Arrangement

  • Salary range : $87,000 – $91,000 per year.
  • Full-time, grant-funded, hybrid with a two-day in-office requirement in Los Angeles.
