Director, Investment Accounting
The Director Investment Accounting oversees the GAAP and Statutory reporting for insurance company investments. This role will collaborate with leaders across F&G's Finance and Investment teams, Asset Managers and third-party accounting administrator to provide insight that drives decisions and improve processes and controls.
This position reports to the AVP, Investment Accounting and will interact with all levels of Senior Management. The Director will manage a staff of investment accounting professionals and work closely with an external third-party administrator and asset managers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee both GAAP & Statutory reporting for invested assets totaling approximately $60 billion. This includes oversight of the team's deliverables for public company SEC filings, NAIC regulatory filings, audited financial statements and related internal management reporting.
- Lead the CECL / Impairment Committee and oversee related controls.
- Review IMR (Interest Maintenance Reserve) and AVR (Asset Valuation Reserve) calculations and related controls.
- Collaborate with the project leaders to transition project work (new reinsurance transactions, redesigned processes, etc.) to the reporting team
- Responsible for collaborating across the organization to provide strategic recommendations on investment accounting related activities. Will discuss and recommend solutions and alternatives as new investments, accounting requirements and operational changes are proposed.
- SOX Control Owner for investment accounting processes. Responsible for ensuring the processes are properly documented as to policies, procedures and controls. Support auditors and internal controls team during their test work.
- Provide internal audit, external audit, and external insurance department examination deliverables related to investment accounting and reporting.
Experience and Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or FinanceA minimum of eight years of investment accounting, financial reporting or auditing experience with 5+ years in a leadership role of a team of accounting professionals.Experience with GAAP and statutory accounting for insurance company general account portfolios preferred.CPA, CFA and / or MBA preferred.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong Statutory and GAAP accounting and reporting knowledge for limited partnerships, fixed income investments, structured securities and derivatives.Excellent communication, organization and analytical skills.Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Experience with Clearwater investment accounting software a plusAbility to handle multiple complex tasks and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.Proven ability to balance operational accounting requirements with strategic value-added activities.Strong collaboration skills with ability to challenge current processes and driving efficiencies across teams.Experience managing and developing accounting professionalsOther Requirements
