Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg position requiring tele experience and strong strip-reading skills in an acute care, trauma level 1 setting.
Responsibilities
Position located in an acute care hospital on a 32-bed Med / Surg unit with ortho, surgical, and oncology patientsTypical patient ratios are 1 : 4 for both days and nightsNight shift position with 12-hour shifts (7-7) and a requirement to work 4 weekend shifts per 4-week periodUnit primarily serves surgical (80%) and oncology (20%) cases, with frequent elective knee and hip surgeriesUse of Cerner EMR and GE Monitors for telemetry; central monitoring tech presentNo ventilators on the unitRequired to float to MedSurg Tele units B2C and B2D, and may float to a sister facilityCharge nurse and unit supervisor provide support; PCTs on days, PCT or Task RN at nightSpectralink phones used for call light integrationMain responsibilities include providing Med / Surg and tele care, especially for orthopedic and surgical patientsResponsible for titrating Cardizem and Amiodarone down as requiredCall physician for guidance as there is no hospitalist or intensivist routinely on the unitIV team not available; House SWAT nurse available for difficult IVsRT and pharmacy support are available 24 / 7Navy scrubs required as the standard dress codeOn orientation, expect 12 hours total with 2 shifts specific to the floorHoliday coverage for one major and one minor holiday is requiredMust not be a former direct employee (FT / PT / PRN) of affiliated health systems within the last yearNot open to local candidates residing within 50 miles of the facilityRequirements
Active AZ or compact RN license required and must be current at the time of considerationCurrent BLS and ACLS certifications requiredMinimum of 2 years recent Med / Surg experience within the past 6 months is essentialPrevious experience with telemetry and the ability to read strips is requiredMust be able to titrate down Amiodarone and Cardizem due to floating to tele unitsExperience with Cerner EMR is preferredMust reside more than 50 miles from the facility (verified by current driver's license)Driver's license must be provided for considerationMust pass a dysrhythmia exam and a pass / fail Sim Lab on day one of orientation (two attempts allowed for each)Failure of either exam results in a 6-month DNU for the regionSubmission must include professional references : one supervisor from past 12 months, one peer or supervisor from past 3 yearsBenefits
