Job descriptionProvide direct supervision, mentorship, and clinical guidance to a team of residential nurses. Manage nursing schedules, assignments, and back up on call coverage to ensure adequate clinical coverage across all residences. Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide ongoing feedback, and foster a culture of professional growth and accountability. Lead nursing team meetings to discuss clinical cases, review policies, and disseminate important updates. Oversee the orientation and training of new nursing staff, ensuring they are proficient in agency policies and OPWDD regulations. 2. Ensure all medical care and nursing services are delivered in accordance with each individual’s Life Plan, PONS, physician’s orders, and established best practices. Oversee the agency’s medication administration (AMAP) policies and procedures, ensuring strict adherence to safety and documentation standards. Conduct regular site visits to residences to perform clinical assessments, review documentation (MARs, nursing notes, etc.), and ensure a safe and healthy living environment. Act as a clinical resource and expert for both nursing and Direct Support Professional (DSP) staff, providing guidance on complex health issues and emergencies. 3. Maintain an in-depth knowledge of and ensure adherence to all applicable OPWDD, DOH, and Justice Center regulations governing healthcare in residential settings. Oversee the clinical aspects of incident reporting and investigation, ensuring timely and accurate documentation. Prepare for and actively participate in internal and external audits, surveys, and regulatory reviews. Ensure all clinical documentation is maintained in a confidential and organized manner, ready for audit at all times. 4. Serve as a primary clinical liaison between the agency, families / guardians, and external medical providers (physicians, specialists, hospitals). Collaborate effectively with the Residential Director and other department heads to ensure a holistic and integrated approach to care. Communicate significant health status changes, hospitalizations, or other critical information to all relevant team members and stakeholders in a timely manner. Must be a currently licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing in New York State. Education : Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is strongly preferred. Experience : A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of nursing experience is required. A minimum of two (2) years of experience working directly with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I / DD) in an OPWDD-regulated setting is required. Prior supervisory or leadership experience (e.g., charge nurse, team lead) is strongly preferred. Knowledge & Skills : Expert knowledge of OPWDD regulations, including medication administration (AMAP) and incident management. Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to train, mentor, and develop nursing staff. Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and sites effectively. Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office. - The Director of Nursing is responsible for the clinical oversight, management, and professional development of the nursing staff across multiple residences.
- This role is critical to ensuring the delivery of exceptional, person-centered healthcare to the individuals we serve, maintaining the highest standards of quality, and ensuring full compliance with all OPWDD, Department of Health (DOH), and HASC Center regulations.
- The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with extensive clinical knowledge and a deep understanding of the unique health needs of individuals with developmental disabilities.
