EHS Manager

Overview :

Our client is seeking an experienced and proactive Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead and manage all aspects of safety and environmental programs within a heavy manufacturing facility located in Muskegon, MI . This is a strategic and hands-on role, ideal for someone passionate about cultivating a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. You'll be the key liaison between operations, leadership, and regulatory bodies-working across departments to reduce risk, drive continuous improvement, and ensure safe, environmentally sound workplace practices. The role balances both office and production floor presence, requiring a leader who's comfortable in steel-toed boots and equally effective in a boardroom discussion. Key Responsibilities :

• Lead and manage EHS programs across the assigned facility, driving a culture of safety, compliance, and proactive risk management.
• Develop and implement procedures to ensure compliance with federal and state safety and environmental regulations.
• Act as the facility's subject matter expert on environmental and safety protocols, collaborating with internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies.
• Lead the incident learning process, including root cause analysis and corrective / preventative action plans.
• Manage regulatory inspections, citations, and the site's emergency response protocols.
• Oversee the medical surveillance program and qualification processes.
• Partner with HR on workers' compensation and return-to-work strategies.
• Maintain required documentation and ensure all records align with current regulations and internal standards.
• Conduct regular plant floor inspections, safety audits, and ergonomic assessments.
• Deliver effective training programs in safe work practices for all levels of the workforce.
• Support sustainability efforts and contribute to corporate environmental management system (EMS) initiatives.
• Foster psychological safety and trusted relationships at all levels of the organization-from hourly employees to senior leadership.
