Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Maintains building systems to include the HVAC system, plumbing, electrical system, fire detection / suppression system, access control system, building envelope, water treatment plant, grounds, heavy equipment and general facility maintenance.
2. Maintains the grounds at the Alpine Science Institute, including the roadway, trails, pathways, and farm.
3. Oversees the work of contractors or employees hired to assist in facility maintenance.
4. Manages the building maintenance, grounds and custodial budgets for the Lander campuses.
5. Establishes and manages the preventative maintenance program.
6. Works with the Director of Physical Plant to prioritize, plan, and execute capital construction and major maintenance projects.
7. Assists and coordinates with other college staff in troubleshooting, planning, and implementing events and repair / maintenance / renovation projects.
8. Works with municipal building and fire safety inspectors, OSHA, insurance inspectors, architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, EPA, DEQ and others as required to maintain safe college facilities.
9. Operates a variety of types of small and light equipment such as mowers, sod cutters, chain saws, pruning equipment, wood chipper, skid steer, fork-lift, backhoe, loaders, trenchers, aeration tractor, and various hand tools; performs routine and regular maintenance on equipment to assure efficiency and safety.
10. Assist staff with Lander / ASI student support as needed, including housing, bathroom, and kitchen maintenance and security.
11. Performs seasonal duties such as winterizing sprinkler systems to avoid freezing, flushes watering systems in spring, and repairs other equipment and facilities; operates snow removal equipment; spreads ice melt.
12. Assists with the location and upgrading of utilities on campus using computer aided drafting software.
13. Evaluates products and materials for use and application; may initiate purchases of cleaning materials; monitors custodial supplies and inventory; restocks supplies and assures proper inventory of materials and equipment such as chemicals, cleaning supplies, light bulbs etc.
14. Operates within the guidelines set forth in the College's policies, procedures and practices.
15. Performs other reasonably related duties as directed or assigned.
16. Responds to facility emergencies as needed, including on nights, weekends, and holidays.
