The Hospital Oncology Pharmacist would be working for a Major Healthcare System and has career growth potential.
Hospital Oncology Pharmacist Highlights :
Schedule : 8 PM – 7 AM, 7 days on / 7 days off. Weeks begin at end of week (Wednesday or Thursday).
Pay Range : $70-75 Hourly
Hospital Oncology Pharmacist Responsibilities :
01. Profiling / Transcribing :
Review patient profiles to ensure appropriate therapy using age, gender, diagnoses, co-morbidities, labs, allergies, height / weight / BSA, pregnancy / lactation status.
Review / transcribe all medication orders—including specialized, protocol-based orders—accurately and timely.
Verify therapy, medication, route, dose, and frequency.
Make recommendations for alternative therapy when appropriate.
02. Dispensing Medications :
Dispense medications, prescriptions, and miscellaneous items accurately and promptly.
Process requests via phone, window, fax, and computer professionally and efficiently.
Obtain medications as needed using economical or alternative options while considering admission status (inpatient / outpatient).
Sign all paperwork / labels legibly.
03. Checking :
Perform accurate unit-dose checks and correct patient profiles when needed.
Check medications before stocking automated dispensing machines and floor stock.
Verify IVs, batching, patient-owned meds, repackaging, and extemporaneous preparations.
Check crash carts, rapid response boxes, and emergency kits.
Sign paperwork / labels legibly.
04. Sterile Preparations :
Prepare and supervise aseptic IV compounding, including chemotherapy, accurately and efficiently.
Review batch levels, supplies, and documentation; ensure timely checking and storage.
Demonstrate strong knowledge of sterile technique, IV equipment, TPN, hazardous drug handling, and preparation safety.
05. Clinical :
Participate in clinical initiatives and provide appropriate clinical interventions with documentation.
Support Pharmacy & Therapeutics initiatives.
Review therapies to eliminate duplicate, inappropriate, or unnecessary medication use.
Convert non-formulary medications to approved formulary alternatives when possible.
06. Drug Information :
Provide drug information to physicians, nurses, healthcare professionals, and patients / families.
Demonstrate knowledge of drug information resources and ability to research and interpret data.
07. Performance Improvement / Customer Satisfaction :
Answer phones, window, and door promptly and courteously.
Handle issues independently when possible.
Participate in internal / external performance improvement and cost-saving initiatives.
Support departmental and system initiatives.
Work professionally with patients, coworkers, and other professionals.
Direct and monitor technicians as needed to maintain workflow.
08. Education / Training :
Complete all competency training.
Participate in education / training for new employees, current staff, students, and residents.
Maintain professional competency through continued learning, literature review, and awareness of new therapies.
Encouraged to maintain active membership in professional organizations.
Hospital Oncology Pharmacist Qualifications :
Previous hospital pharmacy experience (2+ years).
Previous oncology / infusion center experience.
Graduation from an accredited School of Pharmacy.
Current active registration and licensure with the New Jersey Board of Pharmacy.
