Job Description Summary

The Senior Associate Dean, Admissions Communication serves as the departmental lead for communicating with all admissions audiences. Reporting to the Vice-President for Enrollment and serving on the enrollment leadership team, the Senior Associate Dean, Admissions Communication contributes to the strategic direction of the unit and the universitys ambitious undergraduate enrollment efforts. The Senior Associate Dean, Admissions Communication will work with the VP for Enrollment and senior leadership team to establish communication plans, yearly budgets, inventorying systems, and marketing and communication efforts. This position will work in close collaboration with colleagues in University Marketing & Communications to create a year-round communications plan; while working with Slate administrators in Undergraduate Admissions to make certain the content reaches the correct audiences. This position will not be assigned a recruitment territory, but will serve as a member of the Admissions Selection Committee and will play a significant role in student selection, including Early Decision, Early Action, Regular Decision, and waitlist rounds of admission.

Job Description

Essential Functions :

Serves as a member of the enrollment leadership team by reporting on topics of direct oversight and providing advice and counsel regarding a range of undergraduate enrollment topics.

Collaborates with colleagues in University Marketing and Communications to oversee the development and execution of multi-channel communication strategies, including digital media (texting, email campaigns, blog posts, and website content) and print media (viewbooks, promotional materials, admitted student items), aimed at engaging all admissions audiences (prospective students and their families, high school and CBO counselors, the media, and others) and guiding them through the admissions process.

Serves as a member of the Admissions Selection Committee, who read application reviews written by admission staff and select students for admission at Wake Forest. This decision-making requires great discernment and the ability to understand and balance numerous enrollment priorities.

Works in collaboration with the VP for Enrollment and Dean of Admissions, Finance and Administration to develop yearly communications budgets, receive estimates for initiatives, and ensure that costs do not exceed budgeted amounts without expressed permission. Budget meetings should be scheduled regularly throughout the year.

Works with Office of Admissions operations staff to ensure that the intended content reaches the intended audience at the intended time. Redundancy systems must be functioning to ensure that errors do not occur, thus potentially damaging the universitys reputation. Attention to detail and proactive planning are essential to uphold the quality and reliability of the universitys communications.

Scans the communication landscape for best practices and benchmarks Wake Forests undergraduate recruitment communications efforts relative to peer and aspirant institutions. Stays familiar with emerging communication technologies and makes recommendations regarding if and how they may be incorporated at Wake Forest.

Serves as university liaison with various vendors who host websites which facilitate communication with colleges and universities. These vendors currently include , Scoir, and the College Board, but they are subject to change. The content of these sites must be timely, engaging, and aligned with institutional messaging efforts and branding standards.

Assists with maintaining a quarterly inventory report for communications assets. This could involve digital assets (like a photo library) and / or physical assets (like recruitment publications).

Annually audit external presentation assets to ensure they align with university updates and standards.

Contributes to and maintains undergraduate enrollment Policies and Procedures.

Direct Supervisor. Recruits, hires, and supervises the Admissions Communications team.

Year-round project or committee oversight as assigned by the VP for Enrollment or Dean of Admissions.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Bachelors degree with strong academic record and five or more years related work experience.

Experience in researching, writing, and editing clear and concise content.

Experience creating communications plans within a predetermined budget.

As an exempt position, ability to work weekends and evenings, especially during key periods of the admissions cycle.

Understanding of traditional, digital, and social media communications.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Masters degree in communications, English, or related field, and seven or more years of related work experience.

Knowledge of Wake Forest educational and campus programs.

Progressively responsible admissions work experience.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work effectively with students and others in the WFU community.

Familiarity of Slate by Technolutions.

Supervisory experience.

Physical Requirements :

Sedentary work primarily involves sitting / standing; communicating with others to exchange information; repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and / or fingers; and assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
