Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a Med Surg RN with urology / nephrology experience for night shifts at an acute care, Level I trauma center, requiring an active IL RN license and 2 years of Med / Surg nursing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a 25-bed Med Surg unit specializing in urology and nephrology cases within an acute care hospital
  • Patient population primarily includes medical-surgical patients with genitourinary and renal needs
  • Average daily census of 23 patients
  • Required to work 3x12 or 4x12 hour night shifts (18 : 45–07 : 15), including every other weekend
  • May be assigned as Charge RN as needed
  • Floating required to other Med / Surg units or affiliated hospitals as needed
  • Utilizes remote telemetry monitoring, rapid response equipment, and a variety of respiratory and IV therapy devices
  • EMR charting using Cerner; Cerner experience required
  • No on-call required
  • Will provide care for patients with complex urologic and renal needs including management of chest tubes, oxygen therapy, and wound care
  • Must be willing to float within the hospital and to affiliate hospitals as needed
  • Must wear any solid color scrubs as dress code
  • Parking permit provided at no cost with form completed during orientation
  • Candidates must be able to work 2 out of 3 major holidays during assignment
  • Requested time off ideally not to exceed 5 days for the contract
  • Former permanent or PRN employees must have a 12-month separation before applying as a traveler
  • Accepts local candidates with no radius restrictions

    • Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required in hand at time of application
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA or Red Cross
  • Minimum 2 years of Med / Surg and telemetry experience required
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, emergency response, rapid response teams, and remote telemetry monitoring
  • Experience in pre / post hemodialysis management, renal failure, and genitourinary / renal cases required
  • IV therapy / phlebotomy experience including central line, PICC, and peripheral line care, starting IVs, and blood product administration
  • Medication experience with Heparin required
  • Experience with chest tubes, CPAP / BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, and portable oxygen use
  • Isolation precautions and wound care, including wound vac, required
  • Cerner EMR experience required
  • First-time travelers accepted with strong Med / Surg foundation
