    Overview of Role

Fishtank is seeking an entrepreneurial and strategic leader to be our first Managing Director of Product. This critical role will provide dedicated leadership for three core areas :

The development and evolution of Fishtank’s digital platform

The management of Fishtank’s digital content operations

The strategy and development of Fishtank Student, our new student-facing platform

The Managing Director of Product will ensure Fishtank’s platform delivers a high-quality, intuitive user experience that supports teacher success and drives school adoption. They will oversee the product function, including platform development, user experience, data & research, and strategic vendor partnerships. Simultaneously, they will oversee the digital content operations, ensuring Fishtank’s curriculum is delivered effectively through the platform.

As the organization scales, this leader will bring strategic focus to how our platform meets educator and student needs, supports instructional goals, and integrates emerging technologies to keep Fishtank at the forefront of digital curriculum delivery. A key priority is the successful launch of Fishtank Student this school year and establishing it as a valuable instructional tool and market differentiator.

The Managing Director of Product will oversee the engineering team, the product management function, and manage key team members responsible for platform support and digital content operations along with external consultants, while also building and scaling Fishtank’s internal product team over time. A key focus will be leveraging innovative technologies, including AI-powered solutions, to enhance the platform’s capabilities and maintain Fishtank’s competitive edge.

Over time, this role will build and oversee Fishtank’s data and research function, using analytics and user insights to continuously improve the product and demonstrate impact.

While primarily internally focused, this role will also represent Fishtank in key meetings with partners, vendors, and at select conferences. Some travel (no more than four times per year) may be required.

This role reports directly to the CEO and will play a critical role in building Fishtank’s long-term product function and organizational impact.

    Job Responsibilities

Oversee Fishtank’s product function, including platform strategy, development, UX, data & research, and vendor partnerships.

Stay informed about EdTech trends, competitor products, and innovations to ensure Fishtank remains competitive.

Directly manage the Senior Web Developer, the Curriculum Product Director, Platform Support Specialist, and external consultants.

Build and scale the internal product team over time by hiring new staff members and consultants and supporting their onboarding and development.

Oversee digital content management, ensuring seamless coordination between curriculum content, platform features, and user experience.

Facilitate the annual and quarterly planning process for the product and content management teams, maintain a detailed product roadmap, and plan and facilitate weekly product team meetings.

Data & Research and Product Execution

Build and oversee Fishtank’s data, research, and user insights function to understand how teachers and students engage with the platform, identify opportunities for improvement, and measure impact over time.

Conduct and oversee user research and market analysis to guide product design and prioritization.

Establish product development processes, documentation, and KPIs to track progress and impact.

    Cross-Functional Collaboration & Organizational Leadership

Collaborate with Curriculum teams to ensure platform features support instructional goals and teacher workflows.

Partner with the Implementation Support and School Partnerships teams to develop tools and features that enhance partner onboarding, training, and ongoing support.

Work closely with the Marketing and Sales teams to ensure the product team provides the right resources and context to support the sales cycle and inform partners of platform enhancements.

Serve as a key member of Fishtank’s leadership team, contributing to organizational strategy, culture, and cross-functional initiatives beyond the scope of product.
