The Office of the County Engineer provides a variety of important services to the traveling public. These are largely funded by the purchase of license plates and by gasoline taxes. There are 423 bridges and over 500 miles of public right of way - all the responsibility of the County Engineer. These responsibilities include design, construction, inspection, maintenance, and study which result in safety improvements or regulations in compliance with State law.

Position Focus
The Senior Engineering Technician will report directly to the Maintenance Operations Program Manager and will be responsible for coordinating day-to-day maintenance operations, assisting with the planning and execution of major maintenance projects, conducting inspections, managing reactive maintenance requests, and supporting asset management activities to ensure safe and efficient operation of the county roadway system.
JOB DUTIES :
Maintenance Administration :
- Develops and tracks work plans in coordination with supervisors and foremen.
- Assists in scheduling seasonal and large-scale maintenance activities.
- Ensures resources (labor, equipment, materials) are identified and allocated.
- Assists with scoping, estimating, and scheduling larger maintenance projects.
- Provides field oversight, ensuring projects are executed according to standards.
- Coordinates with contractors, utilities, and other departments on shared work.
- Conducts field inspections of pavement, drainage systems, culverts, signs, vegetation, and other roadway assets.
- Documents deficiencies and recommends corrective actions.
- Verifies that completed work meets county standards and specifications.
- Serves as the first responder for citizen complaints and service requests.
- Inspects reported issues, determines urgency, and generates work orders.
- Ensures issues are resolved and documented within asset management systems.
- Uses GIS, gWorks, Samsara, and other asset management tools to track conditions, inspections, and work orders.
- Identifies recurring maintenance trends and assists in long-term planning. Prepares reports, maps, and documentation for leadership review.
- Provides guidance to field crews when needed, especially on non-routine tasks.
- Serves as acting field manager in the absence of a supervisor.
