Foreman Position
The Foreman is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. This position works at various locations and may also be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands. Essential functions include : working safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized overhead work; coaching crew members; possessing working knowledge of leadership and management skills; leading and training lower-skilled employees in safe and productive work procedures; leading and teaching hot stick work on energized lines; conducting pre-job or tailgate briefings; possessing a working knowledge of all aspects of line work; stringing overhead wire; setting poles and anchors; installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear; troubleshooting problems and supervising troubleshooting in primary and secondary systems; replacing cutout fuses and clearing faulted circuits and systems; frequently working with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others; maintaining company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order; performing rigorous physical labor; identifying primary and secondary voltage on a circuit; being familiar with induced voltage; properly sagging wire; properly phasing a circuit through a substation; identifying and locating puller and tensioner setups; understanding grounding procedures; working at heights and / or confined spaces; properly installing and removing PPE and cover up; climbing different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possessing the necessary tools to do so; safely operating equipment; phasing out a line using phasing sticks; planning safe work based on a job print or work order; obtaining a one shot on a recloser; safely performing a reconductoring job; gloving / working live high voltage distribution power lines; safely installing and removing mechanical jumpers; using a load bust tool; properly asking for and taking line clearances; identifying and locating puller and tensioner setups; possessing a working knowledge of line protection devices; understanding flag and tag procedures; working outside, frequently in inclement weather; doing all other related work as required to complete the job.
Other requirements include : 5-year minimum of recent field experience; reading and communicating effectively in English; coordinating and inspecting the work of crew members; traveling long distances on short notice, when required; working for extended periods in various locations, when required; lifting in excess of 50 lbs; properly inspecting rubber goods and PPE; complying with company reporting procedures and completing required company paperwork; possessing a CDL and demonstrating safe driving; being willing to work overtime when requested; being willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.
Physical demands include : talking or hearing; standing; walking; using hands to finger, handle, and feel; reaching with hands and arms; exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibration; occasionally exposed to extreme conditions at construction job sites; loud noise level in the work environment and job sites; performed in outside weather conditions.
Competencies : self-motivated, team-oriented, customer-oriented; must be able to follow company safety rules and all other company policies.
