Job Summary
The Interpreter / Translator for the Deaf provides a communication link between the student and the learning environment by interpreting / transliterating classroom lectures and content; provides sign to voice interpretation to enable students to participate in classroom discussions and activities; provides interpretation to facilitate students' academic access outside of classroom hours, such as office hours, faculty appointments and tutoring sessions; may support faculty and staff members in understanding how to provide access to a deaf or hard of hearing student; works with students and the interpreting team to develop signs for scientific / technical vocabulary without established signs; may provide explanatory or additional interpretation on request; may perform other related duties as required.

Department Overview
The Student Disability Center (SDC) within the division of Student Affairs oversees the provision of academic accommodations, adjustments, and services for approximately 4,500 disabled students to facilitate equal access to the University's educational programs. Through an interactive process, students receive specialized academic support services and adjustments, disability management counseling, academic advising specific to disability impact, and the provision of accessible / assistive technology options and training, and other resources as appropriate. This position is located in the Student Disability Center (SDC) and performs the following duties : interprets / translates for students who are deaf or hard of hearing in degree-related instructional activities. Assists with various projects as assigned.
RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH : Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.
Must adjust schedule to provide interpreting services as needed. Schedule is subject to change with only 12-24 hours notification. Work flexible schedule including hours outside standard 8AM-5PM schedule. Work occasional overtime, evenings / nights, and / or weekends as needed, usually on short notice to meet operational needs. Work occasional varied lunch hours. Attire appropriate to interpreting situation is required.
