Position Title : PreSchool Associate Teacher
Funding Source : General Fund
Employment Type : Hourly, 35 hours / week, 10-month (School Year Calendar)
Reports to : This position reports to and is evaluated by the School Principal
Qualifications :
- Possess and provide evidence of High School Diploma or GED certification; and 60 credit hours from an accredited institution; or passing scores on the Work Keys basic skills or Paraprofessional assessment tests.
- Child Development Associate credential (CDA) or Associate Degree in Early Childhood / Preschool Education or Child Development; or at least (2) college credits in Child Development along with a plan of work to complete the course requirements to earn an Associate or a CDA within two years.
- Past experience working with pre-school or school age youth.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with students, families and staff.
- Obtain 24 hours of Professional Development per school year including but not limited to : CPR / First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogen, Food Safety, Diversity and Licensing as appropriate
Position Description : The PreSchool Associate Teacher provides in-classroom assistance to both students and the Lead Teacher to help facilitate a positive learning environment. The Associate Teacher collaborates with families and other staff members to ensure academic success of students.
Physical Requirements : Light Work : Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and / or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects; Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling.
Evaluation : Performance of this job will be evaluated by the School Principal in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
Key Responsibilities
Greet and welcome children into the learning environment daily; assist children with coats / boots / backpacks during arrival and dismissalAssist with set up and organization of classroom materials for instructionPrepare materials and assist in classroom instruction under direction of the lead teacherEncourage and support children’s participation in classroom activitiesSupport the lead teacher in completion of paperwork and formsAssist and accompany the lead teacher on home visits, field trips, and any other out of the classroom learning opportunitiesParticipate in conferences with familiesMaintain positive, proactive communication with families on a regular basis.Assist with classroom upkeep and managementWork with small groups of students or individuals throughout daily schedule under the supervision / direction of the lead teacherAssist with and participate in meal service and clean upRecord anecdotal notes on students daily and assist teacher with data entrySupport the maintenance of a classroom environment that is safe, sanitary, supportive, inclusive, conducive to learning and developmentally appropriate for learners.Supervise children’s indoor and outdoor playtimeAttend in-service training, activities, and professional development related to your job description as directedWork with school leaders and / or instructional coaches to identify and work towards professional growth goalsFollow and adhere to the procedures and guidelines of the Early Childhood Department, State of Michigan Licensing (LARA), Wayne County RESA, GSRP, and Michigan Department ofEducation (MDE)Exhibit professionalism, leadership, and personal responsibility for daily work and attendance, personal appearance, student learning, and school successDemonstrate collegial behavior and make positive contributions to the school communityFollow all established district policies, procedures, and codes of conduct.Perform all other duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher, Principal, and Administration.
