As Senior Manager, Direct Tax, you will be at the center of international tax compliance, reporting, and advisory services, driving Moderna’s evolving tax structure with a balance of strategic vision and operational excellence. Reporting to the Director, Global Tax Governance, you will lead a growing team of tax professionals and work cross-functionally with Finance, Treasury, Legal, and Commercial functions worldwide. You will ensure alignment with Moderna’s global footprint while advancing digital innovation and process excellence in tax operations. This role will also create meaningful opportunities to interface with and enable cutting-edge capabilities, including Generative AI, in optimizing financial systems and tax processes.
Here’s What You’ll Do :
Your key responsibilities will be :
Lead execution of corporate income tax compliance and reporting across a portfolio of countries, with a primary focus in EMEA and APAC
Oversee external advisor relationships and local finance teams to ensure accuracy and timely filing of returns
Manage direct tax requirements for new entities, branches, and operational expansions globally
Supervise international tax provision processes and financial reporting, including journal entries, deferred taxes, reconciliations, and RTP calculations
Support tax-related disclosures in statutory and US GAAP consolidated financial reporting
Lead tax audits, inquiries, and documentation efforts across multiple jurisdictions
Partner with Treasury and Legal to support intercompany funding, service fees, and transfer pricing transactions
Your responsibilities will also include :
Develop and implement governance frameworks and internal controls for direct tax
Champion automation and data-driven processes using modern tax technologies (e.g., Alteryx, Power BI, tax engines)
Identify opportunities to deploy Generative AI to increase efficiency and reduce manual complexity in tax operations
Drive standardization and scalability of tax compliance in partnership with Global Finance Systems
Act as a strategic advisor on tax structuring, M&A integration, and new market entry
Monitor international tax law changes and assess their implications for Moderna
Lead and develop a growing team of 3+ tax professionals, fostering a culture of learning, accountability, and high performance
Support team growth with technical training, mentorship, and continuous improvement initiatives

Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications) :
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related field
Minimum of 8 years of experience in direct tax (corporate income tax, tax accounting, and compliance), including experience in a multinational company and / or public accounting (Big 4)
Experience managing direct reports and driving team performance
Strong understanding of US GAAP, local GAAP, and tax provision processes
Familiarity with SAP S / 4HANA or equivalent ERP systems
Fluent in English (verbal and written); other European languages are a plus
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications) :
CPA, Chartered Accountant, or advanced degree in Taxation, Accounting, or Finance
Experience working in a Shared Services Center or large multinational finance function
Knowledge of withholding tax, foreign tax credit rules, and international tax compliance requirements
Proficiency with data analysis tools (e.g., Power BI, Alteryx, Tableau) and process automation
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to translate complex tax matters into business-friendly language
A hands-on, proactive, and collaborative working style, aligned with Moderna’s fast-paced culture
