SUMMARY :

The Domestic Violence Case Manager for the Community Office provides a range of direct services to survivors of domestic violence at our Community Office located on the ground floor at 1175 Howard Street. This position will work with other Domestic Violence Case Managers, for clients who are referred to the Riley Center, by drop-ins or follow up services from form residents who participated in one of our DV shelter programs. The Riley Center, a division of St. Vincent de Paul, offers crucial shelter and comprehensive services for survivors of domestic violence.  For more information please visit : This is a full-time, non-exempt, union position working 40 hours per week with occasional evenings and weekends.

SALARY AND BENEFITS OVERVIEW :

The Domestic Violence Case Manager position starts at $31.66 per hour.

  • DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM SERVICES :

    The Community Office Case Manager will mediate and resolve challenges, utilizing a trauma-informed lens, Motivational Interviewing and OARS techniques (Open questions, affirmations, reflective listening, and summary reflections).  This position will require strong administrative skills and the ability to reviewing, process, and maintaining a caseload of clients.  The candidate will have a keen focus on connecting clients and families to supportive services and community resources.  Supportive services include but are not limited to, linkages to existing programs in the San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area, harm reduction services, public program benefits, health services, peer counseling and behavioral health services.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Conduct eligibility assessments and intakes according to grants, contracts and program requirements for potential clients.
  • Provide voluntary and confidential client services, as needed to empower survivors and meet program goals, including but not limited to :
  • Providing culturally appropriate advocacy, case management, and supportive / crisis peer counseling services for a caseload of domestic violence survivors and their families using trauma-informed practices.

  • Utilizing client-centered needs assessments and Motivational Interviewing techniques to assist survivors toward achieving their goals related to housing, childcare, benefits, legal services and other needs.
  • Considering and addressing any safety concerns through the creation of a safety plan.
  • Providing education on budgeting techniques, support in employment preparation, and other life skills to survivors individually or in a group setting.
  • Linking families to other services such as credit counseling, Cal Fresh, or similar benefit services in a manner that promotes engagement.
  • Accompaniment to legal or medical appointments, and emergency transportation for clients as needed.
  • Acting as an advocate for client(s) across other systems such as CPS, housing, public benefits, etc.
  • Monitoring clients for progress and review eligibility criteria for ongoing participation in the program.
  • Offer clients weekly case management meetings, by telephone, home visits, in office peer counseling, to provide support and assess progress while ensuring client satisfaction.
  • Create, implement and facilitate in offering voluntary, supportive groups to community.
  • Assist with handling client issues using problem solving, de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of confidentiality policies. Utilize clinical supervision through RAMS in any case where these issues are in question.
  • Maximize the usage of internal agreements (MOUs) with the above noted mental health service partners, as well as other service providers, encouraging client participation in supportive services.
  • Continue to research, evaluate, and expand client resources for quality and fit with meeting client needs.
  • Back up to answering the domestic violence crisis-line : telephone peer counseling, screening for emergency shelter, providing information and referrals to all callers.
  • Implementing program service in alignment with St. Vincent de Paul and the Riley Center policies and procedures.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recordkeeping, including creating and managing confidential client files, electronic records, case notes, call logs, service records and data entry according to program guidelines.
  • Provide all requested client and program summaries to ensure successful outcomes through analysis and reporting.
  • Participate in program and general staff meetings including confidential case conferences with program team members.
  • Assist Volunteer Outreach & Coordinator in training and supervising volunteers, as needed.
  • Share in general office needs : simple clean / set up rooms, donations, food shopping for groups and walk-ins.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, and participate in on-going cross training to perform duties in other departments of the agency, as needed.
  • QUALIFICATIONS :

  • BA / BS degree in behavioral sciences, social services, psychology or another related field is preferred.  Equivalent work experience acceptable in lieu of degree.
  • 3+ years of experience working with survivors providing social services (strengths-based counseling, case management, and client advocacy) required, specifically to domestic violence survivors preferred. Relevant comparable experience will be considered.
  • Verifiable completion of at least 40-hours of Domestic Violence Counselor Training meeting California state requirements or willingness to undertake and complete such training within the first 60 days of employment.
  • Familiarity with the philosophy and approach of Harm Reduction, Motivational Interviewing and OARS (Open questions, affirmations, reflective listening, and summary reflections).
  • Understanding of the intersection of domestic violence issues, especially in context to race, class, gender, and sexual identity.
  • Ability to implement all applicable confidentiality protections regarding service provision for domestic violence survivors.
  • Ability to de-escalate crisis situations and make decisions under pressure.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients, volunteers, and staff.
  • Ability to assist clients empathetically when resolving challenges, mediating issues and client mentoring.
  • Knowledge, experience, and comfort working with a diverse community, including LGBTQQ, youth, immigrant, low-income communities, and communities of color.
  • Working knowledge of community resources in San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including above average proficiency to read, write and speak English and Spanish, with a commitment to open, direct, and non-violent communication.
  • Proficient in using MS Office, including Word, Outlook, and Excel. Experience with Cloud based document storage.  Salesforce experience preferred.
  • Ability to be self-directed and work independently without supervision.  Able to work on a team, collaboratively, when necessary.
