Job Summary / Description :
Under general supervision, performs skilled building maintenance, electrical and mechanical work of moderate difficulty.
Typical Duties / Job Duties :
- Reads work orders or receives instructions from supervisor or facilities directors concerning assignments or projects and completes task in efficient and timely manner. Troubleshoots and repairs building, lighting and electrical systems and equipment. Performs preventative maintenance on building systems and electrical distribution equipment.
- Communicates in a professional, service-oriented manner with staff, faculty, and others contacted in the course of work. Orders supplies and materials needed for projects from the Central Stores warehouse. Assists other University and Contracted trades for maintenance, operations and construction activities in assigned building(s).
- Installs new light fixtures, switches, and electrical outlets, following manufacturer instructions and NEC code requirements. Replaces faulty light switches, electrical outlets, fire alarm devices, detectors, and electrical appliance motors; installs power distribution systems, such as raceways, conduits, and bus ways. Locates inoperative lighting and determines type of lamp or bulb needed.
- Installs and repairs a variety of building equipment, fixtures and systems; performs repairs and maintenance on general building furnishings and fixtures in offices, classrooms, labs and restrooms. Uses ladder or lift equipment, if necessary. Performs minor repair work on plumbing and mechanical fixtures and assists University and Contracted trades on major repair work.
- Performs after hour, holiday and weekend repairs on a rotating on call schedule and as needed in the event of emergencies. Supports university events after hours and weekends on a rotating schedule.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Any combination of education and experience providing the knowledge, abilities, and skills needed for performance in this position.Licensed Journeyman (or higher) ElectricianFive years of general building maintenance and electrical service work, or closely related experience requiring the possession required skills.Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and have a driving record acceptable to the University’s insurance company.Must pass a background checkEEO Statement :
