A confidential, sustainability-focused startup is seeking a Program Manager with strong experience in quality systems, manufacturing processes, and cross-functional coordination. This role supports the launch and scale-up of a next-generation, bio-based material being used as an alternative to traditional leather and plastics. The company operates with a fast-paced startup culture and partners with high-profile global brands in the fashion and consumer goods sectors.
This is a unique opportunity to join a mission-driven team innovating at the intersection of science, materials, and sustainability. You’ll work directly with R&D, engineering, and manufacturing partners to improve quality systems, lead new product introductions, and ensure production aligns with strict technical standards.
Responsibilities
- Manage contract manufacturing relationships and ensure adherence to product quality, performance, and delivery standards
- Implement and refine QA programs, SOPs, and quality control systems focused on extrusion and textile processes
- Lead efforts related to new product introduction (NPI), from prototype validation through commercial scale-up
- Partner with R&D and engineering teams to identify and resolve process bottlenecks and implement improvements
- Oversee audits, statistical process controls, and inspections for raw materials and finished goods
- Track supplier KPIs and performance, implement action plans, and drive continuous improvement
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align manufacturing processes with product launch timelines and regulatory requirements
- Maintain quality documentation, reporting, and compliance with internal and external standards
Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of experience in quality or program managementStrong background in sheet extrusion, textiles, plastics, or similar manufacturing processesExperience with twin and single screw extrusionFamiliarity working with contract manufacturing partnersSolid understanding of QA systems, statistical analysis, and SPC methodologiesAbility to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple concurrent projectsStrong communication and problem-solving skillsBachelor's degree in materials science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field preferred (relevant experience will also be considered)Nice to Have
Six Sigma, ASQ, or Lean certificationExperience working in startup or early-stage company environmentsExposure to sustainability or bio-based materials is a plusWork Environment & Culture
The team operates from a dedicated innovation facility in Chicago focused on research and development. While nothing is manufactured onsite, this role will collaborate closely with external production partners and internal technical teams.
