Manager, Accounts Payable
Under the direction of the Vice President, Disbursements, the Manager, Accounts Payable is responsible for directing and managing the operational activities of the high-volume Accounts Payable function. Investigates and addresses escalated complex payment issues and vendor complaints while also determining timing of payments to vendors while ensuring compliance with the Gaming Commission's Tribal Gaming Minimum Internal Controls (TICS) and the Gaming Commission Regulations (GCR).
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Directs accounts payable operations, processes and strategies, meeting all deadlines and related responsibilities in support of the enterprise and the strategic vision of the Tribe.
- Leads a diverse team to consistently meet deadlines while cultivating a customer-focused culture that prioritizes the needs of both internal and external stakeholders.
- Manages all month-end / year-end accounts payable requirements within assigned timelines including accruals and closing accounts payable in addition to assisting with internal / external audits and ad-hoc reporting.
- Develops, implements, updates, approves and enforces accounts payable policies and procedures, and applicable desktop procedures.
- Collaborates with all department leaders to streamline processes and ensure proper paperwork flow concerning invoices and accounts payable related activities.
- Participates in the selection and implementation of new accounting software and upgrades to accounting systems.
- Controls the process for the weekly payment runs to ensure consistency and timely payments to vendors, including cutting checks, wires and automated clearinghouses (ACH). Manages Automated Clearing House (ACH) and wire templates using the online banking system.
- Reviews and verifies that vendors (subject to special reporting requirements) are reported timely to ensure compliance with state and governmental agencies. Monitors independent contractor and California Form 592 reporting.
- Collaborates with department leadership on short and long-term goals, objectives and plans that affect the Accounts Payable function.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Makes hiring decisions and designs individual development plans with succession planning in mind for all key roles.
Education, Experience And Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from a four-year college or university is required.Minimum three (3) years of related career experience required.Minimum three (3) years of experience in demonstrated progressive responsible accounting leadership role required.Related, relevant, and / or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (Ksa)
Must have a demonstrated experience with accounting software and a comprehensive understanding of GAAP.Experience working in the following areas : casino, hospitality, construction and tribal government is preferred.Must possess a strong knowledge of the rules and regulations surrounding disbursement activity as it relates to reporting requirements.Must have the ability to exercise the utmost discretion with confidential information including, but not limited to credit card information and personal / financial data from guests and vendors.Licenses, Certifications And Registrations
At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.Driving Responsibilities : Role requires regular commuting between locations. A valid driver's license and vehicle insurance with minimum liability limits is required. Role will not operate or drive Tribe-owned vehicles or patron vehicles.Physical Requirements / Working Conditions Environment
Primary work environment is in a climate-controlled office setting.Work requires travel to attend meetings, trade shows, and conferences.Incumbents may be required to work evening, weekend and holiday shifts.Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.Strength sufficient to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and / or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and / or move up to 40 pounds occasionally.Sedentary work : involves sitting most of the time.
