IV Counsellor and Outreach Coordinator Job Description

Position Overview :

The HIV Counsellor and Outreach Coordinator is responsible for providing counseling services to individuals living with HIV, as well as coordinating outreach activities to raise awareness and provide support to affected communities. The role involves both direct counseling and community-based education, with a focus on HIV prevention, care, and support. The individual will also work closely with local health facilities, organizations, and other stakeholders to implement effective outreach strategies.

Key Responsibilities :

HIV Counseling and Support :

Provide confidential, non-judgmental, and supportive counseling services to individuals living with HIV.

Assist clients with emotional and psychological challenges, including dealing with stigma, discrimination, and mental health concerns.

Help clients navigate HIV treatment options, including adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART).

Provide pre- and post-test counseling for HIV testing, offering guidance on results and next steps.

Outreach Program Development and Implementation :

Develop and coordinate community outreach initiatives, focusing on HIV prevention, education, and stigma reduction.

Conduct awareness campaigns, workshops, and informational sessions in communities to inform the public about HIV, its prevention, and available resources.

Engage with local leaders, schools, and organizations to build support for HIV education and prevention programs.

Identify and engage with high-risk populations, ensuring they receive the appropriate support and resources.

Case Management :

Monitor and follow up with clients to ensure that they receive the necessary care, including referrals to medical services and support groups.

Track and maintain client records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with relevant regulations.

Provide information on available resources such as financial support, medical assistance, and mental health services.

Collaboration and Advocacy :

Work closely with healthcare providers, social workers, and other stakeholders to improve care and support for individuals living with HIV.

Advocate for the needs of people affected by HIV within the community and with policymakers.

Attend training, conferences, and seminars to stay updated on HIV-related issues, including advancements in treatment and care.

Monitoring and Reporting :

Collect data and provide regular reports on outreach activities, client progress, and the effectiveness of counseling interventions.

Use feedback from clients and community members to improve program delivery and outreach strategies.

Qualifications :

A degree or diploma in counseling, social work, public health, or a related field.

Certification in HIV counseling is a plus.

Previous experience in HIV counseling, outreach programs, or working with vulnerable populations.

Knowledge of HIV prevention, treatment, and care practices.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Sensitivity to cultural, social, and economic factors affecting individuals living with HIV.

Working Conditions :

This role may require occasional travel to outreach locations and flexibility in working hours.

The work environment will involve both office and field-based activities.
