Pipelayer Trainee
Responsible for laying clay, concrete, steel, C.I or other type of pipe for water main, gas main, sanitary sewer, telephone and electrical conduits. May smooth bottom of trench; inserts spigot end of pipe into bell end of last laid pipe. Adjusts pipe to line and grade, caulk joints with oakum or yarn and seals joints with cement or other sealing compound; may connect threaded or flanged joining pipe; may assemble and place corrugated metal pipe. Must be able physically to set elevations with laser or other engineering equipment. May perform other related duties as assigned.
Lay and align pipes for water, gas, sewer, and utility systems
Smooth trench bottoms and insert spigot end of pipes into bells of previously laid pipes
Adjust pipes to line and grade; caulk joints using oakum, yarn, cement, or other sealing compounds
Connect threaded or flanged joints; assemble and place coupling
Set elevations using laser or other engineering equipment
Perform pressure testing and other related duties as required
Ability to endure intense manual labor
Report any problems and / or safety hazards to your foreman or, in their absence the crew lead or Superintendent or Safety Officer
Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with OSHA, State regulations, and all safety policies and procedures
Observation of Safety plan and operating procedures, including OSHA regulations and applicable parts of 29 CFR 1926, such as parts C,D,E,F,G,H,I
Observation of spade operation and laying of pipe
Study of various types of pipe and related materials
Ditch grading with compressed air-driven or hand spade
Handling materials, assists in lowering pipe
Works with pipelayer in laying all types of pipe and duct, adjust pipe to elevation, inserts spigot end of pipe into bell end of last laid pipe
Perform pressure testing
May assist Foreman with assignments while on site
May perform other duties as assigned by Superintendents and / or Foremen
Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
Must be in good health
Must be able to pass a drug and alcohol screening test
Cannot be a current college student on a seasonal break from classes seeking to use the OJT program as a summer employment opportunity
High school diploma / GED preferred
Ability to travel to Anchor's main Yard sites required
Ability to follow basic instructions in English required
Ability to use basic tools required
Basic understanding of construction principles and procedures required
Ability to work overtime as needed required
Comfort working in an outdoors high-stress environment with extreme weather fluctuations required
Ability to work independently or as an active member of a team
Spanish fluency a plus

Physically stand, bend, squat and lift heavy objects
Dig ditches, pits, trenches and foundations in preparation for the job site construction
Walk on uneven ground
Stand for prolong periods
Lift and carry weights varying between 10 and 50 pounds
Occasionally exposed to extreme atmospheric conditions (temperature, noise fumes, dust, etc.)
Exposed to the outdoor elements (cold, heat, rain, snow, etc.)
Noise level is loud
