JOB DESCRIPTION : Summary of Position

An Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant provides individual, group and family counseling to promote personal growth and resiliency in the form of social, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral changes in client. Provides services that support families at risk and enhances the capacity of adults working with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in natural settings, which includes travel in the entire service delivery area of 15 counties. This includes performing continuing assessment of the client's needs and functioning, maintenance of appropriate documentation and development and implementation of the Chaddock Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant Project.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Offer training, consultation, technical assistance services to childcare providers and the families they serve that reflect the need of the communities served within the program area based on needs assessment & focus group results. Topics may include but are not limited to : Behavioral issues, Violence / trauma, Abuse / neglect, Cultural, Communicating with parents, Adult / family problems.
  • Each established program area will offer a minimum of 20 training workshops annually at least 1 ½ hours in length and at times / locations convenient to childcare practitioners.
  • Each established program area's Consultant will conduct a minimum of 200 on-site visits annually to childcare programs to provide services.
  • Provide a linkage between the childcare field and the mental health field by offering consultation services, technical assistance, and trainings to childcare practitioners to fill identified gaps in services to children and families with social / emotional challenges.
  • Offer training / consultation services with the goal of increasing childcare provider competency levels when working with children and families in addressing social / emotional health, which will, in turn, reduce disenrollment from childcare programs.
  • Provide appropriate referrals to outside agencies in the social, mental health and health areas based on individual identified needs of children & / or families.
  • Partner with the local CCR&R, Child Care Nurse Consultant and Infant Toddler Specialist to identify prospective providers and determine site-specific needs for mental health promotion, consultation and services. Conduct outreach in partnership with CCR&R, local social service agencies, childcare provider groups, etc.
  • Use available data and provider evaluations to determine future training needs within each program.
  • Treats all clients and colleagues with dignity and respect, regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sexual orientation, gender, or other legally protected status.
  • Attend staff meetings, clinical staffings, and other internal meetings as assigned. Participate on committees as assigned, including quality assurance functions. Maintain appropriate communication with other employees and work as an effective member of treatment team.
  • Meet and maintain applicable certification and licensure requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • Skill in written and oral communication

  • Knowledge of inpatient treatment resources, including appropriate admission procedures
  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory guidelines and codes, agency policies and procedures, and federal and state laws.

  • Skill in interviewing, assessment, and counseling
  • Skill in customer service techniques
  • Skill in problem-solving
  • Skill in consultation and networking
  • QUALIFICATIONS

    Education Level

    Requires a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Infant Mental Health or other related Human Services field

    Years of Experience

  • Completed a minimum of 1,000 hours applicable supervised direct service via practicum, internship or employment.
  • Providers utilizing electronic health records and / or other automated / electronic documentation systems are required to have computer and keyboarding experience and skills or the ability to develop such skills within required timeframes in order to meet the level of proficiency set by the agency.
  • Direct Service Providers utilizing electronic / automated documentation systems will be required to undergo a computer and keyboarding assessment test to determine proficiency.
  • Certification / Licensure

    Must meet Qualified Mental Health Professional status in relevant programs.
