Job Description

About Our Practice

The Veterinary Behavior Center is Colorado's largest veterinary behavior and animal psychiatry practice and Hawaii's only one—serving everywhere from the mountains to the sea. Founded in 2018 and based in Boulder with expansion to Oahu, we are dedicated to keeping families together through exceptional behavioral medicine.

Our Mission: To utilize our advanced knowledge of veterinary behavior and psychiatry to alleviate suffering and build community education, empathy, and support for animal welfare all over the world.

Position Overview

We provide in-depth, expert veterinary behavioral medicine services utilizing veterinary medicine and the science of learning to create tailored and comprehensive diagnostic and treatment plans. Our patient-centered, client-tailored, and doctor-led approach means we work with families as a team, empowering pet parents by giving them the tools they need to help the animals in their care.

The Veterinary Behavior Center is seeking a Behavior Therapy Technician to support our veterinarians and clinical team. This role supports patient care, client education, and behavior therapy services in a specialty veterinary setting. The Behavior Therapy Technician assists with doctor appointments, conducts treatment appointments as directed, and supports administrative and educational initiatives of the practice.

All duties are performed under the direction and supervision of a licensed veterinarian, in accordance with clinic protocols and applicable state and federal regulations.

  • Respond to client inquiries regarding general clinic information, appointment scheduling, and appointment expectations
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for client support between appointments via phone and email, providing information regarding clinic services, fees, behavioral therapy coaching, medications as directed, and general clinic information
  • Communicate effectively with doctors regarding patient progress through medical records and established communication pathways
  • Demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and compassion in all interactions with clients and patients
  • Manage assigned appointment schedules as requested
  • Handle and restrain animals in a low-stress, safe, efficient, and compassionate manner
  • Train other team members as directed
  • Develop and participate in educational, clinical, and marketing materials and events as directed
  • Participate in auxiliary client support services, including workshops, classes, courses, and group sessions, as directed
  • Assist with maintaining cleanliness and organization of public areas, exam rooms, supplies, and equipment
  • Demonstrate initiative, teamwork, and effective time management
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to urgent patient or safety concerns by notifying appropriate personnel
  • Follow clinic safety guidelines and applicable OSHA and DEA regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Ability to work independently while accepting direction
  • Ethical and professional conduct
  • Understanding of the human-animal bond
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work effectively
