The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries / hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities : GENERAL PURPOSE

The College Center for Advising Services (CCAS) is a centralized academic advising office staffed by a team of dedicated professional advisors whose work is designed to support the academic success of undergraduate students. The Academic Counselor will serve as a College Advisor managing a caseload of assigned students in Arts and Sciences and assist with one or more major operations of the Advising Center. The position is approximately 40% college advising and 60% program administration.

College Advisors are responsible for an assigned caseload of advisees over a four-year period from matriculation to graduation. They provide advisement and support around course planning, educational goals, career aspirations, college policies, and opportunities for engaging in campus life. Advisors guide students through the major declaration process, answers general questions regarding financial aid, and monitor progress toward degree completion. Advisors proactively assist students who are experiencing academic difficulties and help students navigate policies relating to academic probation and leave of absence.

Additionally, the position administers Rochester's unique and distinctive experiential learning programs : Take Five and e5. This includes guiding students through program requirements and applications, coordinating the selection and review process, managing course petitions and exception approvals, and serving as the primary point of contact for general program inquiries. The AC also leads recruitment efforts across multiple schools, oversees program communications and events, maintains accurate academic records in collaboration with university offices, and manages the program's Blackboard page.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Academic Advising :

Advises a caseload of assigned students in Arts and Sciences and provides information about program planning, academic resources, special academic opportunities, rules and policies, financial aid, and graduation requirements

Guides students on the development of four-year academic plans and connects students to academic and career development experiences and opportunities such as study abroad, undergraduate research, internships, and co-curricular activities

Effectively communicates and explains academic policies and procedures to students, parents, colleagues, and other stakeholders.

Provides support to students in academic difficulty and serves as a primary resource for students placed on academic probation

Connects students with faculty to explore academic interests and opportunities

Maintains contact with faculty and departmental staff regarding advising programs and consults on individual cases as required

Meets with students through individual appointments, drop-in advising, group advising, both in person and on a remote basis

Assists with outreach to students who are on a Leave of Absence

Collaborates on campus-wide advising initiatives

Attends committee meetings based on interest and department needs

Guides students in preparation of petitions, proposals, and appeals; refers students to faculty or other offices for specialized help

Take Five Program Manager :

Advises students applying to and enrolled in the Take Five Scholars Program.

Disseminates information to constituents across the School of Arts and Sciences, Hajim School of Engineering, and Eastman School of Music to recruit high quality student applications and communicate time sensitive information

Works directly and often with students to assist in creating a high-quality application

Plans and coordinates the yearly Capstone event

Reviews all applications for completeness

Creates and manages the Take 5 Blackboard page

Monitors the Take 5 email account

Reviews Take 5 course petitions for approval or denial

Coordinates with the Registrar, Financial Aid, and Bursar offices to ensure accuracy of academic program records and alignment with university policies

Leads the faculty Take 5 Review Board meeting each semester

Provides ongoing advising to assist approximately 50 Take 5 students in completing their programs

e5 Program Manager

Administers and coordinates the e5 Program

Advises students applying to and enrolled in the e5 Program.

Disseminates information to constituents across the School of Arts and Sciences, Hajim School of Engineering, and Eastman School of Music to recruit high quality student applications and communicate time sensitive information

Works directly and often with students to assist in creating a high-quality e5 application

Collaborates with the e5 instructor and the program manager at Ain Center to facilitate and plan the monthly practicum and yearly Capstone event

Reviews all applications for completeness

Creates and manages the e5 Blackboard page

Monitors the e5 email account

Reviews e5 course petitions for approval or denial

Coordinates with the Registrar, Financial Aid, and Bursar offices to ensure accuracy of academic program records and alignment with university policies

Leads the faculty e5 Review Board meeting each semester

Provides ongoing advising to assist approximately twenty e5 students in completing their programs

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required.

Master's Degree preferred.

Two years related experience required.

or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Excellent organization, time-management, writing ability, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills required.

Understand college student development and demonstrate the skills needed to support and advise students required.

Demonstrated commitment to and experience working with diverse students required.

Strong problem-solving skills, a desire to coach and advocate for students, and a passion for assisting students as they formulate their educational and personal goals required.

Experience with public speaking and presentations to diverse audience required.
