Salary and Benefits
The annual base salary for new BPAs varies according to grade level, ranging from GL-5 / GL-7 at $51,632 - $92,219 per year. BPAs can choose from a range of federal employment benefits, including health, dental, and insurance plans, a generous leave program, and access to a Thrift Savings Plan, similar to a traditional ROTH 401(k).
New Hire Incentive
Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents are eligible for up to $20,000 in recruitment incentives. The first $10,000 is provided upon completing the Border Patrol Academy, with an additional $10,000 offered for selecting a prioritized duty location.
Retention Incentive
Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents may qualify for up to $40,000 in further incentives over their first four years of service.
Duty Locations
Please note that duty assignments will be determined based on operational needs at the time of offer and may include various high-need areas. Relocation may be necessary. Duty location affects pay rates, with potential locality pay bonuses available for some areas. This is a career ladder position with grade progression to GL-5, GL-7, GL-9, GS-11, and GS-12, allowing for promotions without reapplication after 52 weeks in each grade.

Citizenship : Must be a U.S. citizen to apply.
Residency : Must have primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.
Age Limit : Must be referred for selection before reaching the age of 40, unless you have prior federal civilian law enforcement experience.
Training : Upon hiring, you will attend the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico, for approximately six months to receive comprehensive training.
