JOB POSTING #176 : Animal Medical Coordinator

NUMBER OF VACANCIES : 1

DEPARTMENT : Parks & Recreation

WORK LOCATION : Animal Shelter

HIRING RANGE : $20.00 to $31.13 / Hour

PAY GRADE : I

TYPE OF POSITION : Regular, Full-Time

DAYS WORKED : Monday through Friday

HOURS WORKED : 8 : 00 am to 5 : 00 pm

JOB DUTIES : ESSENTIAL DUTIES :

Works under the direct supervision of the shelter veterinarian.

Coordinates the operations of the animal medical department in an efficient, and effective manner to ensure high quality medical care, record keeping, and customer service.

Manages administrative functions for the medical staff : payroll, staff schedules, and recruiting. Creates, monitors, and adjusts schedules for the medical department. Includes developing and maintaining relationships with contract medical staff. Organizes invoices for payment for contract staff and ensures payment.

Ensures accuracy of all medical records : enters surgery data, logs drugs, scans medical "green sheets", and enters medical exams and diagnostics as needed.

Maintains controlled substance logs for in compliance with all state and federal regulations for all controlled substances used at the shelter

Manages inventory and places orders for all supplies and drugs needed for the animal medical department and the animal shelter. Maintains purchasing logs for budgetary processes

Leads the department in Customer Service, ensures all external and internal customers are communicated with appropriately.

Assist in surgical procedures as needed : surgery prep, cleaning surgical packs, surgery recovery, etc.

Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS :

This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes : pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.

Associates degree or any combination of education and / or experience to perform the duties of the position. Bachelor's degree preferred.

Valid New Mexico driver's license with acceptable driving record for the past three years or state of current residency.

Excellent communication skills

Excellent organizational skills with ability to multitask and prioritize medical cases.

Ability to do high volumes of data entry and ensure accuracy

Ability to meet deadlines.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, supervisors and the public.

Ability to work under stressful situations and handle them appropriately and effectively.

Ability to cope with emotional stress of euthanasia and medical deaths.

Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions.

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and directions as set forth by the shelter veterinarian and / or the director.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED :

Animal capture equipment, chemicals associated with animal medical department cleaning materials, medical equipment such as gas anesthesia, apnea monitor, recovery equipment, needles and syringes, surgery tables and lights, blood chemistry machines, microscope, otoscope, dental instruments, IV equipment.
