1. Functions as Staff Nurse role model with superior performance in all areas of practice including ability to act as resource for ED staff and ancillary depts.

2. Demonstrates effective delegation skills, including daily staff assignments such as crash cart, accudata maintenance, discharge phone calls and other dept. functions.

3. Maintains clear / open communication with nursing supervisor regarding ED patients and staffing needs such as :

a. Patient discharges or pending discharges.

b. Patient dietary or other needs not available in ED kitchen.

c. Break relief for staff with early notification if assistance required to ensure appropriate meal or rest breaks are provided.

d. Additional help required — pending procedures, 1 : 1 patients etc.

4.Takes active role in socialization and orientation of new staff members to hospital and ED.

5. Maintains effective working relationship with peers, department director, nursing supervisors and all other hospital departments including laboratory and imaging services.

6. Demonstrates ability to evaluate and provide feedback on employee performance.

7. Exemplifies superior customer service skills with all customers (patients, family, physicians, peers and other hospital staff), responding to all concerns and utilizing chain of command when appropriate.

8. Provides verbal and written feedback to department director on any employee, patient, or other concerns which effect smooth operation of the department, or which have required intervention. This should include exceptional practice by individual staff.

9. Rounds on all patients several times per shift to ensure patients and or families are updated on care, taking proactive steps as necessary to ensure optimal care and customer service.

10. Gives report to oncoming charge nurse highlighting issues and providing information necessary to ensure smooth transition of care.

11. Ensures all staff introduces oncoming staff RN to patient / family with name and date written on information board.

Position Summary :

This role provides direct clinical patient care.

The role will assume responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing direct clinical care to assigned patients on a per shift basis, and unit level.

The role is responsible for supervision of staff to which appropriate care is delegated.

The role is accountable to support CNO to ensure high quality, safe and appropriate nursing care, competency of clinical staff, and appropriate resource management related to patient care.

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Preferred

  • Academic degree in nursing (Bachelors or Masters degree)
  • Certifications

  • Required : Must be currently licensed, certified or registered to practice profession as required by law, regulation in state of practice or policy. CPR
