Salary :
The Clinical Counselor is responsible for the delivery of various therapeutic services at the Facility which
provides optimal quality care and consistency to both the client and the course of their recovery.
Oversees the clinical integrity of the program and provides clinical supervision to counselors and case
management staff. Conducts varies assessments as assigned, carries a caseload of up to six clients and
participate in treatment planning / reviews and implementation and comprehensive
documentation. Receives clinical supervision from Clinical Director. Receives direction regarding
operational organization of the Facility from Program Director. works cooperatively as a recovery team
member.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Screens and evaluates prospective clients to the Facility prior to admission, employing
intervention techniques, interviewing and assessment skills.
2. Provides appropriate referral options when indicated and / or required.
3. Initiates personal contact with newly admitted clients providing support and orientation to the
program philosophy.
4. Conducts Psychosocial Assessment, assessing clients needs and identifying presenting
problems. Summarizes findings in written, integrated assessment. Demonstrates ability to
develop integrated summaries relative to the clinical and psychiatric antecedents of the
dependency process.
5. Carries cell phone for weekend and night on call coverage.
6. Conducts groups and individual sessions to clients per program standards.
7. Utilizes clinical skills to facilitate group process and individual / family sessions.
8. Documents, on a daily basis, the clients progress and participation.
9. Conducts all care in a professional and therapeutic manner, placing the clients dignity and rights
above personality differences.
10. Develops and implements an individualized recovery plan for each client using measurable goals
and objectives.
11. Obtains information from the intake assessment, medical history questionnaire and physical
screening, family assessment and psychosocial assessment and uses this information to
formulate a recovery plan that is individualized within 24 hours of admission.
12. Reviews and updates the recovery plan through written documentation on the Recovery Plan
Review (weekly) at the clinical staffing.
13. Meets individually with the client periodically before and afer weekly stafng.14. Assists the client in discharge planning as needed, i.e. provides referrals when necessary.
15. Directs the client to the continuing care program - collects the Discharge Plan prior to
discharge.
16. Prepares and presents didactic lectures on the aspects of addiction as well as relapse
prevention, as directed.
17. Obtains and utilizes appropriate visual and teaching aids, i.e. videos, chalkboard and materials.
18. Appraises the subject matter of the presentations periodically to ensure that information being
delivered conveys the current trends, concepts and statistics in the field.
19. Communicates the clients progress through record-keeping and verbal interaction with the
Facility staff personnel and referral sources.
20. Maintains appropriate written documentation in the clients chart on a daily basis, i.e. progress
notes, recovery plans, recovery plan updates, and discharge criteria update.
21. Transports and accompanies clients of-site as needed and required and at the direction of
Program Director.
22. Maintains professional rapport with the referral source as well as utilization review personnel.
23. Keeps the Facility office staff appraised of pertinent interaction with clients.
24. Attends all staffing's, in-service trainings and meetings as required, including weekly clinical
staffing and team meetings, as well as any additional meetings as requested by the supervisor.
25. works in cooperation with Administration, therapy staff and ancillary staff members to establish
consistent, therapeutic interventions to ensure optimum individual progress.
26. Acts as a representative of the Facility to the community and educational institutions by request
of supervisor.
27. Monitors work performance for performance improvement and quality assurance issues, i.e.
peer reviews on client charts.
28. Participates in performance improvement opportunities as requested.
29. Maintains a working knowledge and complies with DHCS standards.
30. Conducts tours of the Facility as requested by supervisor.
31. Observes The Facility policy and procedure requirements as it pertains to personnel.
32. Conforms to the philosophy and ethics of the Facility.
33. Demonstrates the concepts of the philosophy through courteous and caring behavior toward all
clients, staff and visitors.
34. Other duties as assigned.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES :
1. Participates in quality Improvement task groups (as assigned).
2. Interface with assigned client's insurance, managed care companies, planning and concurrent
review.
3. Facilitates ancillary services / community referrals for assigned clients (including coordination of
transportation with staff).
4. Provides transportation to and supervision of clients at community 12-step meetings per
program schedule.
5. Transports clients per supervisor's directives (for court, ancillary services, etc.).
6. Ensures transportation safety by conducting van inspections and following safety rules.
