Job Summary

ANSIRH seeks a Project Director with strong research administration and implementation skills to direct the planning, implementation, and dissemination of several research projects led by Principal Investigator Dr. Daniel Grossman. The Project Director is responsible for overseeing the implementation of multiple research studies on complex issues related to abortion and contraception, and the impact of federal and state policy on peoples’ lives. Of particular focus will be to explore the feasibility of over-the-counter access to medication abortion which will utilize innovative methodologies for study design and recruitment, data collection, and analysis of qualitative and quantitative study findings. The primary responsibility of this position will be administrative and management focused, including facilitating budget planning and reporting for multiple projects, managing staff, research partners, and other collaborators. This person will serve as the primary liaison to the PI and supervise day‑to‑day activities of a research portfolio.

Key responsibilities

Study planning and implementation : In collaboration with the Principal Investigator and study team, develops and oversees the implementation of new research and related processes. Ensures that all aspects of research studies are managed and completed according to developed study systems and protocols, including study design and tool development and IRB approval and renewal for studies. Exercises judgment in selecting the appropriate methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining high‑quality results.

Study site relationship management : Initiates and maintains relationships with study sites, including conducting site visits, providing training and ongoing technical support to study sites, ensuring study sites are implementing research protocols correctly, and serving as the sites’ main study contact.

Data collection : Oversees administering surveys with patients, clinicians, and other stakeholders to explore experiences with abortion receipt and denial, contraceptive feature preferences, and other outcomes.

Project management and team supervision : Creates study timelines and task lists, trains and supervises team members in carrying out specific tasks, manages budgets of multiple grant sources for projects, and provides overall project quality assurance.

Budget management and coordination : Oversees all proposals budgets and status reports, adjusts budget planning according to project activities and timelines, and works with sponsors, UCSF contracts office(s), and vendors to facilitate payments, subcontracts and billing. Collaborate on fundraising and proposal development.

Dissemination of findings : Contributes to completed study reports and manuscripts, presents study results to external stakeholders, and develops plans to disseminate key findings to larger policy and general audiences.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in public health, social science, or related area and five (5) or more years of experience in research implementation, public health, reproductive health, or related area; and / or equivalent experience / training.

Advanced knowledge of common organizational‑ or research‑specific and other computer application programs.

Experience gathering, synthesizing, and presenting evidence for various audiences, including non‑academic audiences.

Experience in research design, implementation or management.

Experience with human subjects applications to Institutional Review Boards.

Experience writing research reports and journal articles.

Experience working in sexual and reproductive health provision, policy or research.

Experience and advanced knowledge of research implementation.

Budget management experience and skills.

Grant proposal writing and fund development knowledge and skills.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and influence, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.

Advanced project management skills.

Ability to multi‑task with demanding timeframes.

Advanced analytical / problem‑solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters degree in public health, social science, demography, and / or related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Experience managing and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data.

Salary

Salary range for this position is $102,400 - $156,000 (Annual Rate).
