Director of Engineering
A well-established manufacturer of high-performance storage and process tanks serving industrial, municipal, and energy markets is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead a company-wide transformation of its engineering organization. The company designs and fabricates products in carbon steel, stainless steel, and fiberglass, serving customers across sectors such as agriculture, fuel, water, biogas, and oilfield applications. Position Overview
The Director of Engineering will play a pivotal role in redefining how engineering supports the business, from corporate strategy to plant-level execution. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines strategic direction, technical oversight, and organizational development. The ideal candidate is an experienced engineering leader who thrives in manufacturing environments involving heavy fabrication, pressure vessels, or industrial equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership : Establish and execute an engineering vision that supports company growth, innovation, and operational excellence.
Department Modernization : Redesign engineering workflows, tools, and standards across both corporate and plant teams to improve efficiency and collaboration.
Technical Oversight : Lead product design, technical documentation, and compliance for steel and fiberglass-based systems aligned with industry codes (API, ASME, UL, etc.).
Innovation & Product Development : Drive advancements in product design, manufacturability, and cost optimization through technology integration and continuous improvement.
Cross-Functional Collaboration : Work closely with Operations, Quality, Manufacturing, and Sales to ensure smooth project execution from concept through production.
Team Leadership : Build, mentor, and empower a high-performing engineering organization focused on accountability, growth, and technical excellence.
Project Management : Set departmental KPIs, prioritize initiatives, and oversee project delivery within time and budget constraints.
Customer & Supplier Engagement : Partner with customers to develop tailored solutions and with suppliers to strengthen material and design capabilities.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or related Engineering field.
PE License or willingness to obtain.
8–10+ years of progressive engineering experience, including 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
Experience in manufacturing tanks, pressure vessels, or large fabricated components is strongly preferred.
Proven record of leading organizational change and improving engineering performance.
Strong technical background in metal fabrication, welding, and composite materials.
Skilled in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and ERP-integrated design workflows.
Exceptional communication, leadership, and strategic planning abilities.
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, growth-oriented manufacturing environment.
