Job Description
As a Mechanical Engineer specializing in Mechanisms, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and implementing mechanical devices and systems. You will utilize computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering (CAE) tools to address engineering challenges in fields such as aerospace, medical devices, or industrial machinery. Your key responsibilities will include research, analysis, prototype development, performance testing, troubleshooting failures, and ensuring the accuracy of manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities
Analyze problems and research feasible mechanical solutions.
Evaluate designs for performance and feasibility.
Conduct tests on mechanical systems.
Utilize CAD and CAE tools to design new mechanical devices and subsystems.
Develop and execute test procedures, analyze test results, and refine designs.
Oversee the manufacturing process and ensure products meet design specifications.
Investigate equipment failures to identify root causes and recommend remedies.
Collaborate with other engineers and teams to develop project goals and communicate technical information.
Serve as a critical technical interface in design reviews and product development activities.
Develop and refine testing requirements and processes for new devices.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues during manufacturing or operational phases.
Maintain and update technical documentation related to designs and projects.
Essential Skills
Proficiency in mechanical design and analysis with NX.
Experience with optic, NX, and precision mechanisms.
Space qualification and optical communication systems experience.
Strong understanding of mechanical principles, including thermodynamics, materials science, and stress analysis.
5+ years of experience as a mechanical design engineer.
Degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
Experience with space systems, free space optical systems, or precision mechanisms.
Hands-on experience executing space qualification of mechanisms and using NX / teamcenter.
Drawing experience with GD&T.
Experience building optical systems in a lab or clean room environment.

Work Environment
You will work onsite in Northridge, CA, five days a week. You will be part of a technical team of optomechanical engineers, thermal engineers, structural analysis engineers, and manufacturing engineers. Your role involves solving challenging technical problems associated with delivering an ultra-high-performing optical, electrical, and mechatronic module to space. You will tackle complex design challenges while ensuring smooth technical execution of current production operations.

This is a Contract position based out of Los Angeles, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $90.00 / hr.
