Summary of Position :
The EKG Technician performs a variety of diagnostic cardiac and neurological testing procedures under the supervision of credentialed technologists or physicians. This position supports the Imaging and Cardiology departments by performing EKGs, setting up and removing Holter and event monitors, and performing EEG exams. The EKG Technician also provides clerical and patient-care support similar to the Imaging Secretary and Imaging Assistant roles to ensure efficient departmental workflow and excellent patient experience.
Functions of Position :
- Diagnostic Testing :
- Performs routine and stat 12-lead EKGs on inpatients and outpatients.
Applies, instructs patients in the use of, and removes Holter and event monitors.
Downloads, verifies, and prepares monitor data for physician interpretation.Performs EEG exams per departmental protocols under the supervision of a licensed technologist.Ensures quality of tracings and proper patient identification on all diagnostic tests.Documents patient information accurately in the EMR and department logs.Clerical and Administrative Support :Assists with scheduling, check-in, and coordination of diagnostic exams.
Answers and routes telephone calls; provides routine information to patients and staff.Sends reports to ordering providers and maintains accurate records of completed procedures.Assists in ordering, maintaining, and organizing departmental supplies.Performs receptionist duties as needed to ensure smooth departmental operations.Patient Care and Transport :Assists with patient transfers, positioning, and comfort during testing and imaging procedures.
Transports patients to and from the Imaging Department or patient care areas when needed.Confirms patient identity by verbal confirmation and comparison of ID band with requisition.Provides compassionate and professional communication with patients and family members.Room Preparation and Safety :Prepares exam rooms before and after procedures; ensures cleanliness, linen change, and supply readiness.
Adheres to infection control and hospital safety standards at all times.Reports equipment malfunctions or safety concerns promptly to supervisor.Communication and Teamwork :Maintains effective communication with technologists, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare staff.
Protects patient confidentiality and ensures privacy in accordance with MDMC policy and HIPAA regulations.Participates in meetings and in-service education to maintain knowledge and competency.Demonstrates flexibility to assist in other imaging or clerical areas as department needs arise.Qualifications :
High school diploma or equivalent.Strong communication skillsCurrent BLS certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hireAdditional education or training in EKG, EEG, or related healthcare field preferredMonday - Friday
