Job description

Overview

Project Engineer - Design Team, Industrial / Manufacturing role at JE Dunn Construction. Part of the Advanced Facilities Group (AFG) which combines Mission Critical, Advanced Industries, and Industrial & Manufacturing teams for high-performing projects across the country.

Role focuses on supporting routine construction and field execution on industrial / manufacturing projects, participating in general construction management, punch lists, and self-perform work to understand how JE Dunn executes projects, in alignment with the company's strategy, vision, and values.

Key Responsibilities — Core

  • Engage in safety and quality programs, contributing to an injury-free environment and mentoring others.
  • Participate in QA / QC planning to ensure task quality.
  • Assist with estimating and change management, including quantity take-off and subcontractor proposals review.
  • Support on-site activities with project team (monitor crew size, self-perform hours, materials, quantity, equipment).
  • Contribute to punch lists, inspections, safety and quality reviews, and required documentation.
  • Post drawings and specifications with current information; organize and participate in project meetings; prepare and disseminate documentation.
  • Prepare reports (daily / weekly progress, unit reporting, schedule updates, manpower, equipment tracking) to support the project.
  • Perform periodic on-site observations with project leadership.
  • Create procurement logs, track shop drawings, and follow up on deliveries.
  • Provide progress updates to support scheduling; assist with project close-out (punch lists, O&M manuals, as-built drawings).
  • Apply company best practices and Lean principles; build relationships with trades and project team members; understand cross-functional roles and how each contributes to project success.

Key Role Responsibilities — Additional Core

  • Participate in implementing project safety plans and promote compliance through training and communications with Safety Representatives.
  • Assist with estimates, schedules, work plans, and daily logs; pre-plan crew activities and update the daily task plan and look-ahead schedule.
  • Support job set-up and project administration in CMiC and other company technologies.
  • Assist with subcontractor scope management; coordinate with internal project support functions.
  • Control costs by evaluating and improving processes; contribute to QA / QC planning for assigned tasks.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining crew schedules; provide cost and material analysis; mentor less experienced team members.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Accurate and timely work execution; strong verbal and written communication.
  • MS Office proficiency; understanding of organizational structure and resources.
  • Knowledge of Lean processes, construction technology, and means / methods of construction management.
  • Understanding of self-perform work and labor productivity; ability to assess and optimize project productivity; knowledge of trades and scopes of work.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team.
  • Education

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field.
  • Equivalent relevant experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Experience

  • 2+ years of construction experience.
  • Working Environment

  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds; travel and relocation may be required.
  • May work non-traditional hours to meet project needs; exposure to extreme conditions (hot or cold).
  • Frequent physical activity : standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching; occasional sitting and computer use.
