Primary Care Clinic Phlebotomist FT Days

The Phlebotomist is a meticulous professional who draws blood from patients generally for diagnostic purposes. S / he may test the blood specimens themselves or are responsible for labeling the specimen vials and transporting them to the lab for analysis. The Phlebotomist reports to the Laboratory Manager supports the hospital providing specific duties including :

JOB DUTIES

• Identify patients and their personal information by reviewing their identity documents
• Assess patient needs reviewing patient history and determining the reason(s) for the blood draw
• Select gauge needles and prepare veins or fingers for blood draw
• Extract blood from patients through venipuncture or fingersticks
• Analyze blood specimens using the correct testing equipment when necessary
• Prepare specimens for transportation including labeling vials accurately and matching blood specimens to patients
• Supply diagnostic notes to physicians or other healthcare professionals as necessary
• Clean maintain and calibrate lab equipment used in the drawing of blood specimens
• Order laboratory supplies as needed

The Phlebotomist assumes other responsibilities as assigned.
