Job Summary

Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Student Life for Health and Wellness the Director of Wolverine Wellness will provide leadership for enhancing community and personal well-being and for providing backbone support for an institution-wide Well-being Collective. You will develop strategic plans for health promotion that support the missions and values of the University of Michigan and the Division of Student Life. It is also expected to examine and address campus and community health and well-being issues at all levels of the socio-ecological model intrapersonal, interpersonal, institutional, community, and public policy. You will engage and collaborate with interdisciplinary partners, demonstrate cultural competence and inclusivity, apply accepted theoretical frameworks and planning models that address individual and community health, and conduct population-based assessments of health status, needs, and assets. It will also conduct environmental assessments of campus and community health and well-being needs and resources, develop measurable goals and objectives for health promotion initiatives, implement evidence-informed health promotion initiatives with fidelity to maximizing effectiveness, use accepted quantitative and qualitative methods for assessment and program evaluation, and contribute to the field. You will provide direct supervision of the Wolverine Wellness staff, and it will oversee the Well-being Collective Steering Committee for the University of Michigan.

This position is based fully onsite in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Regular in-person presence is required.

Responsibilities

  • Wolverine Wellness Strategic and Operational Leadership
  • Oversee all Wolverine Wellness operations, including hiring, supervision, evaluation, and discipline of professional staff, support staff, and students.
  • Coordinate strategic planning efforts for Wolverine Wellness and facilitate lead team meetings.
  • Ensure the institution is in federal compliance with the Drug Free Schools and Campuses Act, which requires a biennial review of the U-M Alcohol and Other Drug Policy and alcohol and other drug prevention efforts
  • Direct health communication, research, data collection, and student engagement initiatives focused on campus well-being.
  • Oversee the motivational interviewing trainings / continuing education efforts offered through the Division of Student Life.
  • Lead the Collegiate Recovery Program strategy, resource allocation, and fundraising, including scholarships.
  • Direct the ongoing assessment and monitoring of campus-wide needs for health education outreach programming, online educational initiatives, media campaigns, and recommendations for policy changes.
  • Coordinate evaluation efforts and surveys (e.g., ACHA NCHA) with Student Life Research and the Well-Being Collective.
  • Develop and monitor budgets, negotiate contracts, oversee grants, and pursue funding opportunities.
  • Supervise planning of community events and special projects; represent Wolverine Wellness on committees and collaborations.
  • Administrative Responsibilities

  • Support the Well-Being Collective (WBC) as Advisory Council member, Steering Committee chair, and supervisor of WBC Lead; advance the university's adoption of the Okanagan Charter
  • Represent Student Life on committees, leadership groups, and the Behavioral Intervention Team.
  • Program Implementation

  • Conduct brief student interventions (e.g., Wellness Coaching) and provide Motivational Interviewing training.
  • Deliver wellness programs to academic and community partners.
  • Oversee Wolverine Wellness participation in Student and Parent Orientation sessions.
  • Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Public Health, Student Affairs / Higher Education, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Health Promotion and the design, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion efforts.
  • Previous leadership experience managing a team or department.
  • Experience using policy and systems-level approaches to facilitating positive community outcomes (i.e., Collective Impact, etc.)
  • Experience in project and program supervision, staff training, group facilitation, and the development of health communications.
  • Knowledge of current theory and practices in health promotion, well-being, and personal skill development.
  • Experience coordinating and presenting health promotion and well-being programs.
  • Knowledge of and experience with health promotion / well-being topics : alcohol and other drug education, prevention, harm reduction and recovery support, eating and body image issues, sexual health, resilience, and / or other health / well-being topics.
  • Previous experience in a college or university setting.

    Additional Information

    Posting salary range : $100,000 - $122,000 - Salary may vary depending on qualifications, experience, and education of selected candidate

    This role may have reporting obligations under Title IX and Clery.
