Job Summary
The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for providing evaluation and treatment services to patients of all age groups in an inpatient acute care setting. The role ensures timely, accurate, and patient-centered delivery of speech-language pathology services, while maintaining compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Comprehend, interpret, and follow medical prescriptions for Speech-Language Pathology.
- Conduct evaluations and diagnostic testing across all ages.
- Administer speech-language, cognitive, and swallow assessments, including videofluoroscopy.
- Provide therapeutic interventions for communication and swallowing disorders.
- Document patient progress and outcomes accurately and timely.
- Educate patients and families regarding treatment goals and progress.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and participate in patient care conferences.
- Assist in post-discharge planning, referrals, and equipment needs.
- Mentor and guide students, fellows, and support staff.
- Maintain licensure, CEUs, and adherence to performance improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology.Certificate of Clinical Competency (ASHA) or current Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) candidate.Current New York State Speech Language Pathology license (can be obtained after offer acceptance).BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross).Experience in an inpatient acute care setting, serving all age groups.Comfort working in a trauma center environment, including neuro, cardiac, ICU, oncology, and general medicine / surgery specialties.Ability to perform swallow assessments, speech / language / cognitive assessments, video fluoroscopies, and speech / swallow treatment.Preferred Qualifications
Previous acute care clinical experience beyond minimum requirements.Experience with dysphagia and neurogenic communication disorders.Certification in Teaching of Speech and Language Disabilities.Contract Details
