San Bernardino County Employees' Retirement Association is hiring three (3) Associate Investment Officers to support their Senior Investment Officers. The ideal candidate will be intellectually curious, analytically sharp, and deeply motivated to understand investments at a fundamental level. This position includes the potential to earn up to a 12 percent incentive compensation bonus. Candidates are expected to complete the full application including all relevant work experience, education, credentials / professional designations and / or progress toward credentials / professional designations. This position will remain open until a sufficient number of qualified applicants has been received. We will begin reviewing applications on July 15, 2025, at which time we will begin phone interviews for those candidates most closely meeting the needs of SBCERA.
Under general supervision, the Associate Investment Officer supports SBCERA's investment program by conducting research, monitoring investments, preparing reports, and making recommendations. The role supports the investment team in managing the investment portfolio and ensuring compliance with investment policies and objectives.
The Associate Investment Officer is the first level in SBCERA's investment professional series. This position reports to a Senior Investment Officer and assists with research, analysis, monitoring, reporting, and other functions as needed within the investment division. The role is designed to prepare incumbents for progression to the Investment Officer classification through the development of investment analysis, reporting, portfolio management, and communication skills.

Examples Of Duties
Examples of job duties include, but are not limited to :
- Assist in analyzing global economic and financial markets, as well as pension fund investment management trends and new product developments.
- Support the implementation of investment program objectives and guidelines.
- Monitor and analyze cash flows and portfolio liquidity to meet expenditure requirements while maintaining the asset allocation plan.
- Assist in research and due diligence on existing and prospective investments, including quantitative and qualitative analysis.
- Assist in monitoring investment performance and evaluating portfolio and manager performance.
- Prepare special analyses, investment performance reports, and presentations for internal use, Board and Committee meetings, and external stakeholders.
- Support compliance monitoring and ensure adherence to Board-approved investment policies and guidelines.
- Participate in investment due diligence meetings with investment managers, consultants, and service providers.
- Maintain accurate records, investment documentation, and reporting systems.
- Develop deep proficiency with data, performance and portfolio tools used to manage the portfolio.
- Collaborate with other investment staff and SBCERA departments to support organizational goals.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be :
Education : A bachelor's degree in finance, economics, mathematics, accounting, business administration (with an emphasis in investments, economics, or related fields), or a closely related field.Experience : At least three (3) years of professional investment experience with multi-asset portfolios in a public agency or financial institution involving investment analysis.Desired Designations : Progress toward or having obtained a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA), or Financial Risk Manager (FRM) designation is desirable but not required.Licenses and Certificates : A valid California Class C driver's license may be required.Special Requirements : Willingness to travel as necessary for meetings, due diligence, and conferences.Physical Requirements : Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Some travel to investment managers, consultants, and conferences may be required.
Working Conditions : This position requires occasional travel and the ability to work beyond standard office hours as needed to meet deadlines and organizational needs.
