General Responsibilities :
The Automation and Maintenance Technician will perform work related to the design, fabrication, installation, maintenance, operation, inspection, and testing of a variety of control systems equipment including, but not limited to, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, PLC, computer, variable frequency drive, electro-mechanical, digital, telemetry, physical plant facilities and analog components used in production, maintenance and wastewater process control systems; and perform other duties as required. This position is responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining the production equipment and physical plant facilities and will require knowledge of production equipment, plant facilities, and maintenance practices based in a food facility.
Specific Responsibilities :
- Perform routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance on electrical, electronic, pneumatic, mechanical, and networked control systems (including PLCs and VFDs) to ensure reliable plant and wastewater treatment operations.
- Conduct inspections, testing, calibrations, and adjustments to maintain process instrumentation accuracy and control system performance.
- Monitor production and control equipment for proper operation, performance, and safety; identify and address abnormal conditions to protect product quality, personnel safety, and equipment integrity.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including maintenance logs, work orders, and service records.
- Communicate effectively with Production, Quality, Sanitation, and other departments to coordinate maintenance activities and ensure smooth plant operations.
- Ensure all work is performed safely and professionally in accordance with company policies, safety procedures, and quality standards.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and control system issues using multimeters, meggers, schematics, and knowledge of VFD setup and operation.
- Identify root causes and implement preventive measures during repair activities to reduce equipment downtime and recurrence of issues.
- Develop proficiency across multiple skilled disciplines (e.g., welding, fabrication, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, boiler, HVAC) and apply skills to perform repairs and improvements.
- Operate and maintain utility systems, including startup and shutdown of equipment; proficient in DAF system operation, jar testing, and chemical adjustments.
- Complete required competency and Simutech training modules, including troubleshooting of electrical, control, motor, and industrial circuits.
- Lead and train Level 1 and Level 2 technicians in welding, electrical, and other skilled disciplines; demonstrate effective leadership, communication, and teamwork.
- Demonstrate self-motivation, responsibility, time management, and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Provide excellent customer service and collaboration across departments.
- Able to stand on concrete for up to 12 hours, bend, stoop, and lift up to 75 pounds.

Desire Background / Experience :
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong communication skills (English preferred) and is self-driven with a genuine desire to learn and continuously improve. They are team-oriented, goal-focused, and motivated to develop new technical competencies. A basic understanding of electrical theory is strongly preferred, along with the ability to learn and interpret schematics, electrical drawings, ladder logic, and PLC programming.
