Addiction Counselor

SUMMARY: This individual is responsible for planning and of conducting therapeutic activities for both individuals and groups within the program. They also counsel clients on an individual and group basis, and must have a significant to advanced understanding of how therapeutic programs operate and how clients progress through the treatment system and full continuum of care. Work is reviewed by the Program Director and/or Clinical Supervisor through an evaluation of the completion of assignments through individual and group supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• carrying out tasks in the therapeutic care, treatment, and rehabilitation of persons with substance use disorder(s) and/or mental health diagnoses;
• facilitating and supervising individual and group counseling;
• working with social service agencies, managed care organizations, hospitals, clinics, courts, prisons and other entities in coordinating client care;
• assisting clients in their access and utilization of community resources;
• preparing treatment plans, biopsychosocial histories, discharge/ aftercare plans, reports and maintaining accurate records encouraging, reassuring and giving needed support;
• Recommending educational and occupational training and/or possibilities for placement; and completing assessments and evaluations based on appropriate ASAM criteria.
• Be responsible for a caseload of clients, as identified by program requirements and in accordance with state regulations.
• Complete individual treatment plans upon clients’ admission, in accordance with established program guideline.
• Document all clinical interventions performed within client’s electronic record, and complete monthly treatment reports.
• Maintain accurate electronic records on each client and ensure the timely completion of tasks in accordance with established program guidelines and level of care requirements.
• Conduct individual and group sessions based on clients’ level of care and state regulations.
