Job Title : Temporary / Contract General Counsel (3–6 Months)
Location : Onsite – San Jose, CA
Duration : 3–6 Months (with potential extension)
About the Role :
We are seeking an experienced General Counsel to provide hands-on legal leadership and support during a critical growth period. This onsite contract role offers an opportunity to work closely with senior leadership in a fast-paced, environmental and industrial sector company operating in a heavily regulated space .
The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in commercial transactions , regulatory compliance, and general corporate law. You’ll advise executives, draft and negotiate complex agreements, and ensure the company remains compliant with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Key Responsibilities :
- Serve as the company’s lead legal advisor on all corporate and commercial matters during the contract period.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, including vendor, supply, distribution, licensing, and service contracts.
- Provide guidance on environmental, industrial, and regulatory compliance issues.
- Support business operations by identifying and mitigating legal risks.
- Advise leadership on corporate governance, employment, and risk management matters as needed.
- Collaborate with external counsel for specialized legal needs.
- Develop or refine internal policies, templates, and procedures to support ongoing compliance and operational efficiency.
Qualifications :
J.D. from an accredited law school and active California Bar membership (or ability to practice as in-house counsel in CA).10+ years of relevant legal experience, including prior in-house counsel or senior legal advisory experience.Strong background in commercial transactions and contract negotiation .Experience working in regulated industries , ideally environmental, manufacturing, energy, or industrial sectors.Practical, business-oriented approach to problem-solving.Ability to work independently, prioritize competing deadlines, and operate effectively in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
