Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg unit with oncology patient care and extensive inpatient skills, requiring a NC or compact RN license and at least two years of experience.
Responsibilities
Work in a hospital Med / Surg unit with a primary population of patients with general medical-surgical and oncology diagnosesPatient ratio is typically 1 : 6, with potential for higher ratios during periods of increased censusPatient population includes cases such as AKI, cancer, sepsis, diabetic foot ulcers, HF, and chemotherapy / biotherapy administration by IV, PO, or injectionNight shifts with every other weekend requiredLength of assignment ranges from 13 to 26 weeksFloating may occur to similar units, inpatient holding in the ED, or alternate care locations within the hospital or nearby affiliate hospitalCall is required if called off on a prescheduled shiftDocumentation and medication systems used are Epic and PyxisUnit uses navy blue and white scrubsResponsible for comprehensive patient care including chemotherapy / biotherapy administration and management of complex medical diagnosesRequired to work two out of three major holidays and no RTO is allowed during orientation weekIf scheduled work is missed, make-up shifts must be arrangedStorm Team / Hurricane Team participation is mandatory, which may require reporting during disasters, mass casualty, or catastrophic eventsAttendance at monthly staff meetings is expectedAssignment may involve pre-assignment to various units as neededInitial unit orientation is 24 hours (2 shifts)Travel pairs allowed but must work on different unitsCandidates living within 50 miles will be offered a local pay rateRequirements
Active NC or compact RN license must be in hand at the time of startAt least two years of recent inpatient Med / Surg nursing experience requiredCurrent BLS certification requiredSkills required include colostomy care, accessing ports, blood product administration, central and peripheral line management, PICC line management, heparin and insulin administration, surgical drain and chest tube care, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, wound care, and wound vac useMust pass EKG testing before beginning the assignmentEpic EMR charting experience requiredExperience with SBAR communication and PYXIS medication systems requiredFirst-time travelers acceptedBenefits
