Court Support Manager

Thurston County District Court is seeking applications from those interested in bringing an inspiring, service-oriented, and positive leadership approach to two available positions as a Court Support Manager. These positions are responsible for managing the daily, non-judicial operations of the assigned District Court Department(s). Duties of the positions include assigned staff leadership, supervision and support, and the planning, implementation, and evaluation of department operations consistent with the mission, vision, and objectives of the District Court judicial officers and Court Executive Officer. This involves the planning, design, and implementation of procedures, processes, programs, and projects that comply with the court's policies and goals, along with coordination of these duties and functions through direct reporting staff.

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following :

  • Plans, organizes, and supervises the daily non-judicial operations of the assigned District Court department.
  • Develops and recommends short and long-range plans supporting the goals, mission, and vision of the court. Works with court executive leadership to establish cohesion and alignment of workplans.
  • Provides first-line resolution of personnel, risk management, and working condition issues; responding to issues of concern.
  • Plans, organizes, and supervises the work of assigned staff and develops work performance measurements and standards. Conducts evaluations and makes recommendations regarding personnel, such as hiring, professional development, and disciplinary actions.
  • Provides leadership, training, and support of assigned department staff, establishing a positive and motivating court culture in alignment with the mission and vision of the court.
  • Ensures the implementation of policies and procedures, application of project or program initiatives, compliance with court rules and statutes, and provides technical guidance and direction on court policy and administrative procedures.

Qualifications :

A bachelor's degree in criminal justice, public administration, business administration, management, or similar related field. Three (3) years of experience demonstrating successful management capabilities, including at least two (2) years previous supervisory experience, preferably in a court or legal environment. Any equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the applicant with the desired knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work may be considered. Certified Court Manager (CCM) Certification may be considered the equivalent of up to two years' experience in management in the justice system. Combination of a Certified Court Executive (CCE) and CCM may be equivalent of up to four years' experience in managing in the justice system. Must have the ability to proficiently utilize a personal computer and appropriate software to successfully perform essential functions of the position. Must successfully pass a background and criminal history check.

Desired Skills :

Experience in court operations management. Experience providing support and service within a Washington Court of Limited Jurisdiction. Knowledge of the core competency guidelines as developed by the National Association of Court Management. Knowledge of Washington State laws and court rules that govern policies and procedures in the courts. Experience and understanding of the court's judicial information systems. Ability to identify needs, develop action plans, and evaluate outcomes. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing using high-level grammar, spelling, and composition.

  • Work Environment Work is performed primarily in an office environment, serving judicial officers, team members, and the public. Position may experience extended periods of sitting and / or standing. This is a team-centered environment.
  • Schedule - Monday Friday, 8 : 00 a.m. 5 : 00 p.m. Workload demands may occasionally require work outside the assigned work hours.
  • Travel Requirements - Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings or training.
  • Customer Interactions - Daily interactions via phone, in-person, and video with members of the public, justice partners, and team members.
