Job Overview

The Cardiac Sonographer Senior performs clinical echocardiographic studies for congenital heart disease on patients ranging from neonatal to adult; assists the laboratory with complex cardiovascular malformations and technically advanced cases. The Cardiac Sonographer Senior has obtained a high level of proficiency, competency and knowledge in the field of pediatric echocardiography; provides instruction and orientation of new employees, physicians, fellows, students and preceptees; possesses high level cardiac ultrasound theory and techniques; experienced in the field of cardiology, comprehension of anatomy and physiology, with specific experience in pediatric cardiac ultrasound.

Qualifications

Education : Associates degree and / or graduate of a formal sonography program is required.
Experience : Three years of pediatric cardiac sonography experience.
Certification(s) :
Pediatric Echocardiography Registry required;
BLS / CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire

Responsibilities

Performs clinical echocardiographic (echo) studies, newborns to adults, for congenital heart disease with a high degree of difficulty or complexity requiring knowledge of hemodynamics, physiology, and congenital heart disease.

Completes echocardiography studies strictly following departmental sequence and protocol.

Completes Doppler studies and obtains appropriate color flow and spectral analysis Doppler data including advanced analysis of hemodynamics.

Prepares accurate preliminary summaries of the echocardiography findings for cardiologist interpretation providing documentation of observed echo findings; reviews completed studies with cardiologist

Assists the cardiologist in the cardiovascular operating room and cath lab with trans-esophageal echocardiography.

Requiring advance knowledge of hemodynamics, physiology, and complex congenital heart disease.

Provides mentoring and training of new sonographers, fellows, and visiting sonographers.

Tracks and documents ongoing training and self-study for quality improvement; maintains a registry of credentials and certifications.

Assists with organizing and developing quality assurance programs.

Maintains clean and safe practices, procedures, equipment, and work space in order to contribute to a healthy patient care environment.

Completes mandatory occupational meetings and training as outlined by hospital policies; attends all staff meetings with exception of holidays or patient scheduling conflicts.

Performs routine transthoracic echocardiograms on pediatric patients in the network of care and regional sites as needed.

By position, may perform lead duties to include coordination of day to day activates; providing technical assistance including but not limited to equipment training, troubleshooting and maintenance. May also provide educational training or assistance with special projects and evaluations including but not limited to compliance studies.

Network of Care and Regional Clinics : Takes the lead in program development related to orientation and instruction of new sonographers; general decision processes; resolves scheduling conflicts, changes, cancellations and workflow issues; creates and updates information binders, maintains commission checklists, manages room utilization and organization, reports equipment malfunctions and resolves equipment performance problems; may be involved in new site development and planning .

Salary Information

Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience. Hourly Range : $42.27 to $63.41. Eligible Incentives : $20,000 Sign-On Bonus + relocation assistance available for eligible candidates.
