Life Claims Examiner

This position is responsible for timely adjudication of Group Life, AD&D, and Waiver of Premium claims, verifying eligibility and making the initial claim decision based on the policy. Responsible for making accurate payments to the correct beneficiaries and ongoing annual reviews of waiver of premium claims to verify continued eligibility. Strong desire to provide world class service to both internal and external customers.

• Job Duties :
• Reviews, investigates and determines eligibility pursuant to policy provisions while meeting regulatory, statutory, department and company requirements.
• Requires ability to appropriately interpret and apply contract provisions.
• Reaches out to the policyholder and beneficiaries regarding outstanding requirements.
• Consults with manager regarding potential referrals to Legal Department and medical resources when needed.
• Maintains claim records and documents claims in a manner defensible in court.
• Communicates claim status and decisions to policyholders, insureds, beneficiaries and other interested parties in accordance with internal guidelines, regulatory and statutory requirements.
• Demonstrates proficient use of the claim system and associated systems.
• Maintains performance at or above departmental metrics.

Life claim specific : Determines correct payee and accurately issues payments with next level approvals.

• Required Skills & Abilities :
• High level attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to identify priorities, manage time well and work under pressure to meet or exceed performance expectations.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to work independently and as part of the team.
• Supports continuous process improvement and total performance management culture.
• Ability to use multiple mainframe applications simultaneously and easily learn new systems.
• What We're Looking For :
• Experience in Life, Benefit, or Liability claims
• (Medical / Dental claims experience not applicable)
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Proven customer service experience - will work with people in sensitive times
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment
• Work Environment :
• Operating hours 7 AM - 7 PM CST (must be comfortable working 8 hour shift within this time frame)
• Training will be 6 weeks - start time 8 AM CST
• 100% Remote - equipment provided

• Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00 / hr.
