Description :

The Critical Care Registered Nurse holds shift accountability for providing care to Intensive Care patients.

Responsibilities include utilizing the Nursing Process in accordance with the state Nurse Practice Act and hospital policy.

The Registered Nurse demonstrates critical thinking skills and scientific judgment.

Leadership is exercised in the anticipation and planning for the safe delivery of care.

Clinical competencies are maintained through continuing education.

The nurse delegates patient care priorities based on the education and experience of available staff.

Direction and supervision of assigned personnel delivering patient care are provided.

Floating to telemetry units may occur depending on the needs of the ICU unit.

Every other weekend coverage is required.

On-call duties may be required based on census.

Travel experience is required.

Skills include management of BiPAP, blood product administration, care of ventilated patients, and central line care.

The nurse interprets arterial blood gases and dysrhythmias.

Additional skills encompass management of multisystem organ dysfunction, obtaining 12 lead EKGs, and PICC line management.

The unit collaborates with interdisciplinary teams including physical therapy and respiratory services.

Patient diagnoses are diverse and may involve a variety of medical conditions.
