The Boston Globe is seeking a proactive and analytical HR professional to join our team as a Compensation and HRBP Generalist . The ideal candidate brings a balance of people skills and data fluency to support equitable and consistent HR practices across the organization.
This role is ideal for someone looking to grow their HR career by contributing to both employee relations and compensation design, particularly in a mission-driven, unionized environment.
The role will report to the HR Director for the Globe and Opinion’s Newsroom with a dotted line to the Total Rewards Director.
Responsibilities :
Compensation (Approx. 80-90%)
- Analyze job descriptions and responsibilities to determine appropriate job levels and salary grades.
- Maintain a structured job architecture and centralized job description library.
- Draft, revise, and collaborate on job descriptions with HR Business Partners and hiring managers.
- Conduct compensation surveys and analyze market data to ensure internal equity and external competitiveness.
- Benchmark internal compensation against market trends and make data-driven recommendations.
- Support budgeting and forecasting of compensation-related expenses.
- Prepare reports, dashboards, and summaries to inform HR and business leadership decisions.
- Utilize HRIS and compensation tools (e.g., Workday, SAP, PayScale) for data analysis and process support.
- Assist with implementation and optimization of compensation systems and related technology.
- Lead or support UKG module implementations and enhance system utilization.
- Ensure accuracy, consistency, and cleanliness of HR and compensation data.
- Leverage reporting tools (e.g., UKG, Tableau) to generate insights and support compensation processes.
- Support pay equity reviews and compensation benchmarking initiatives
HR Business Partner Generalist (Approx. 10-20%)
Serve as the primary HR point of contact for newsroom suborganizations as defined.Provide day-to-day HR guidance to managers and employees, addressing team needs and concerns.Support conflict resolution and employee relations matters in collaboration with the HR Director.Educate employees and managers on HR policies, ensuring consistent application across the organization.Assist in training, learning, and development initiatives to support employee growth and engagementQualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).At least 7 years of relevant Compensation experience , with ideal exposure to HRBP Generalist practices.Strong Excel skills , including proficiency in pivot tables, chart creation, simple and easy data analytics design; comfortable working with large datasets.Demonstrated experience analyzing compensation data using internal and external sources (e.g., Radford, Mercer, CUPA-HR).Strong written communication skills , with the ability to draft clear, accurate, and concise job descriptions.Excellent organizational skills and keen attention to detailStrong knowledge in HRIS systemsBonus Points if You…

The BGMP office is located in downtown Boston, near Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, and is easily accessible by MBTA and commuter rail lines. This position is based in Boston, and candidates should be based in the area or willing to move. This role should expect to be on-site 3 days per week.
