Your Role

As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will play a vital role in helping students thrive in their educational environment. You will provide essential services that enable students to benefit from their special education programs, focusing on :

  • Classroom Engagement : Supporting students in classroom lessons and activities.
  • Self-Care Skills : Enhancing students' abilities in daily living tasks.
  • Social Skills : Promoting interaction and participation in school activities.

Key Responsibilities

In this impactful position, you will be accountable for :

  • Improving manipulative skills for self-care and academic tasks.
  • Enhancing school transitions and participation through environmental accommodations.
  • Maintaining functional postures to promote comfort and engagement.
  • Facilitating safety and reducing injury risks in the school environment.
  • Increasing coordination and functional use of hands for school tasks.
  • Promoting independence in feeding and mobility through adapted equipment.
  • Implementing sensorimotor activities to enhance learning capabilities.
  • Training educational staff on body mechanics and classroom adaptations.
  • Facilitating access to assistive technology for student independence.

    • Qualifications

    To succeed in this role, you will need :

    Education

  • A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
  • National Board Certification for Occupational Therapy.
  • A current and active Illinois license to practice, renewed every two years with 24 hours of continuing education.

    • Experience

  • Experience in evaluating students through observation, record review, and interviews.
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized intervention strategies.
  • Experience collaborating with school teams, parents, and community agencies.

    • Skills and Abilities

  • Strong communication skills for sharing assessment findings with parents and school teams.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices for developing Individualized Education Programs and Section 504 Plans.
  • Commitment to professional growth and participation in clinical educational opportunities.
  • Adherence to ethical and legal standards as defined by the American Occupational Therapy Association.
  • Ability to supervise occupational therapy assistants in accordance with Illinois regulations.
