Job Description\n

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg position requiring at least 2 years of experience and active ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Work in a 19-bed Med / Surg unit within an acute care hospital
  • Nights shift from 7 : 00 PM to 7 : 30 AM, with every other weekend required
  • Care for patients with CHF, diabetic complications, pneumonia, COPD exacerbations, orthopedic injuries, and post-op surgical cases including TURPs and joint replacements
  • Pediatric patients may be occasionally present
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1 : 5 on nights
  • Advanced respiratory care equipment available including CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen
  • Telemonitoring is provided, with tele strips read by CCU staff and visible to Med-Surg nurses
  • Common titratable drips include heparin and bumex, with infrequent titration required
  • Orientation provided for 3-6 shifts, extended if needed
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Responsibilities include caring for a diverse Med / Surg and occasional pediatric population, including both chronic and post-op cases
  • Charge Nurse and House Supervisor support available on all shifts
  • Team includes 1-3 CNAs during the day and 1 CNA overnight
  • Floating expected as 'helping hands' to other departments if not fully cross-trained
  • Holiday coverage is negotiable
  • If on low census, must be able to report within 30 minutes if called in
  • First-time travelers will be considered for this position
  • \n \n Requirements\n

  • Active OR or Compact RN license by assignment start
  • At least 2 years recent Med / Surg nursing experience
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications required
  • General medical-surgical skills and standby for general pediatric patient care
  • Experience with MEDITECH 5.66 charting is preferred
  • Copy of driver’s license required for consideration
  • Two professional references : one supervisor from the past 12 months and one from a supervisor or peer within the last 3 years
