Role Summary
The Manager of I&C Projects and Technical Execution provides leadership and oversight for all Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) projects across RPG’s Nuclear Services portfolio. This position ensures that projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with customer requirements and RPG’s First-Time Quality standards.
This individual serves as the technical and operational bridge between Project Management, Engineering, Training, and Field Operations. The Manager is responsible for leading project planning, execution performance, and the development and implementation of I&C training and qualification programs. This role ensures that all RPG I&C personnel meet or exceed customer and regulatory expectations for technical proficiency, procedural compliance, and readiness.
The Manager also evaluates workforce composition and readiness by assessing craft availability, experience levels, and qualification depth to ensure proper staffing across all project phases.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Oversight
- Provide leadership and direction for all I&C project execution activities across RPG’s nuclear fleet.
- Partner with Project Managers to ensure readiness, resource alignment, and adherence to project scope and schedule.
- Lead and mentor I&C Supervisors, Leads, and technical personnel to achieve consistent performance and professional growth.
- Drive a culture rooted in safety, 200% accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct workforce assessments to ensure proper alignment of craft skill sets, qualification levels, and experience to project needs.
Training, Qualification & Workforce Development
Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of RPG’s I&C Training and Qualification Program.Collaborate with the Training & Development Department to ensure all RPG I&C qualifications are EPRI-based and utility-approved.Support the creation and administration of Task Performance Evaluations (TPEs), technical exams, and readiness assessments.Evaluate and document individual craft proficiency, training status, and experience levels to support resource planning.Ensure training materials, procedures, and practical evaluations remain aligned with customer-specific requirements (e.g., Duke Energy, FPL / NEE, Dominion).Provide technical instruction, mentorship, and on-the-job coaching to elevate the competency of I&C personnel.Evaluate training effectiveness through performance metrics, field observations, and lessons learned.Project Execution
Oversee planning, installation, calibration, testing, and troubleshooting of I&C systems during maintenance, modification, and outage scopes.Validate completion of work packages, ensuring documentation accuracy and compliance with plant and regulatory standards.Support schedule recovery and quality improvement initiatives through root-cause analysis and data-driven recommendations.Ensure strict adherence to Human Performance Fundamentals and conduct regular field reviews to monitor execution quality.Technical & Operational Excellence
Maintain technical proficiency on plant systems, EPRI standards, and nuclear utility procedures.Collaborate with customer engineering and maintenance departments to resolve complex technical challenges.Oversee readiness planning, risk identification, and the development of contingency strategies for critical-path work.Support fleet-wide performance improvement initiatives, self-assessments, and causal analyses to enhance First-Time Quality.Readiness & Continuous Improvement
Develop and execute pre-outage readiness plans, ensuring technical, training, and resource readiness.Lead post-outage reviews and integrate lessons learned into future project and training plans.Drive continuous improvement through feedback loops between field operations, training, and leadership teams.Support long-term workforce planning by analyzing craft availability, qualification trends, and succession readiness within the I&C discipline.
