Slack is looking for an engineering leader to join our Frontend engineering team within the Application Architecture and Systems (ArchSys) organization. This team is responsible for the architecture and core modules powering the Slack desktop UI, as well as the platform enabling Slack to build and ship frontend features. In addition to these responsibilities, the team stewards and contributes heavily to the Electron Open Source project, which powers the Slack Desktop client on Mac, Windows, and Linux.
As a Sr Engineering Manager in ArchSys Frontend, you will be leading an experienced and diverse team, coaching towards project milestones and career growth, and advocating for and maintaining a clear roadmap and long term vision. While you won’t be defining the architecture or writing the code yourself, you care deeply about web technologies, frameworks, maintainability, and developer efficiency, and will be crafting the future of FE and Desktop engineering at Slack.
A key part of this role will be developing relationships with partners including engineers, engineering managers, and product managers in order to weigh in and make trade offs against existing business priorities as well as champion team interests which may include maintaining momentum for large scale, multi-quarter initiatives.

What you will be doing
Collaborating with the team to set the vision and complete long term strategies
Defining, monitoring, and reporting on goals for team deliverables
Representing the team in planning, product, and leadership meetings within the organization and across Slack engineering
Regularly connecting with multi-functional partners across Slack to drive alignment and complete business goals
Representing and promoting opportunities to improve productivity, performance, and code health through a consistently evolving and modern frontend infrastructure
Acting as a key collaborator and strategic partner in business critical project areas such as security and product
What you should have
Experience coaching and mentoring a team of impactful engineers
Resilience, and capacity for navigating uncertainty, ambiguity, conflict, and high stakes decisions
Passion for developer experience and product lifecycle improvement
Familiarity with TypeScript, React, Redux and other web technologies, along with the ability to understand and explain technical trade-offs and complexities
Experience rolling out large scale, cross cutting changes safely across multiple work streams and development teams
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience
